Poikilothermic
The inability for the body to regulate body temperature.
Has anyone heard of this/and if so could give me direction to seek help and Dr’s who treat this. She was DX at age 10 with heat exhaustion in emergency room- on trip to TX. Moved to live with me in TX after college from WA State, symptoms are worse here.

Hello @joy05 and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I can imagine TX would be a pretty tough environment for her if she has trouble regulating her body temperature. I'm curious, what did the doctor(s) say at the time of diagnosis in terms of how to live with this and if they recommended any sort of treatment?

1 ReactionShe has never had a formal DX for this: It started when she was 10 from a heat emergency visit…after golfing. She lived with dad so I got her at 26 with psychotic episodes and a DX of schizophrenia. This condition seems to happen with SMI/ traumatic brain injury clients or anyone. With her I wonder if she has an injury undiagnosed and it is being treated as schizophrenia. She is on the lowest dose of Haldol because she is med intolerant. Medicaid dose not pay for specialist except the Dr who prescribes her antipsychotic.

1 ReactionHi, I’ve just come across this website as I’ve been looking as well for a neurologist or clinic that might specialize in poikilothermia. I’m a 61 yo and suffer from heat attacks daily that can be brought on by physical activity, stress and even sometimes nothing at all. I’ve had two brain surgeries to remove a tumor from my brain stem… the latest was four years ago. While I have many disabilities after my latest surgery, the poikilothermic symptoms are the most problematic to living an independent life. I am sharing this as I need to find a specialist that could either help with treatment or management of these heat attacks as they are becoming more severe and leave me exhausted. Thanks for reading this and please let me know if this is the correct forum for this type of enquiry.
Hi. I have the same problem. My Dx is POTS which causes my brain not to send correct signals to my organs including my heart, sodium levels, body temp regulation, etc. I'm definitely interested if you find any way to help with the body regulation cuz I can't really get up and even walk to the kitchen without the issues starting.
