HCM and Head rush sensations

Posted by ajand @ajand, Aug 31, 2019

Hi-I am new to the HCM/HOCM diagnosis. Just wondering if anyone experiences headrush sensations or pressure in head on exertion?? Should I be concerned or is this normal? Didnt used to experience this. Any input would be appreciated.

My husband had dizziness on exertion which led to syncope (we live at 4500 ft ) for a few months prior to surgery and on max dose of drugs eg Disopyramide and Atenolol he was not allowed to go out for a walk by himself, surgery made an amazing difference. Wishing you all the very best

My dizziness occurs when putting on glasses and reading. I have had many tests without results.

Recently diagnosed with AHCM. Have appt. at Mayo Sept. Have lightheadedness off and on. Is this dangerous before my appt. in Sept. Am 78 and thought I was in excellent health. This was a total shock. Walk about 3 miles a day and do anything I want to do. Was having palpitations and wanted it checked out. After ekg, holter, echo and mri, was diagnosed with AHCM. Was lucky enough to be able to head to Mayo, but the waiting is difficult.

Welcome, @emo44. I'm excited for you that you have an appointment for apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in September.
I moved your question about feeling lightheaded off and on and your concern about this being dangerous to this existing discussion:
- HCM and Head rush sensations https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/head-rush-sensations/

I did this so you can read what others have posted and connect with members like @Sensation @onewholovesrock @mistymopps3 @sheim @rrowner2 @angiev18 @archer and more.

If this symptom of lightheadedness is new and concerns you, you may wish to contact Mayo Clinic through the patient portal. Have you created an account on the portal called Patient Online Services?

Thanks Colleen,
I have not created an account on Patient Online Services yet. I tried to do that, but have not yet received the information I need from Mayo. Will do as soon as I can.

I experienced lightheadedness due to posturial changes...i.e. lifting up quickly from say gardening etc. Since i have started my prescribed medicine, diltiazam, my lightheadedness has almost completely.gone away! Has anyone else noticed this?
