Posted by denise81 @denise81, Jun 23, 2022

i was put on placid and 81 mg aspirin after two recent stints. everything i read about plavix is a nightmare. i have only been in 3 days have hoarseness and had severe chest pain this morning. i have also read there have been many lawsuits and that it can actually cause heart attacks . i have been doing alternative meds for years. can i take fish oil and krill oil instead. i did not have a stroke or heart attack . two 90% blocked arteries

lioness❤️❤️❤️, luv this. thank you for your kindness and your reply. so if you knew me it is my tendency to go as far away from medical doctors but i felt like i needed to take your wisdom very seriously. i got 2 stents because of 90% blockage. but before that even happened i was told i needed an aortic valve replacement. the crazy thing is they decided to hold off from the valve surgery after telling me i needed it right away. i thinking this is crazy. why would they do that so i talked them into doing a heart cath my idea mind you and that is when they found the blockage. i was not going to take the statin but i feel i must for at least a period of time. i am praying i won’t have to take it forever. i am 69. the really crazy part is i have high blood pressure i did great on my treadmill test. it just doesn’t make much sense to me. i have to thank the good Lord for protecting me from a heart attack or stroke. i have been taking healthy supplement hiking biking and walking for many years. it’s crazy. i have however had a heart murmur since childhood.

@denise81 You sound like a person that knows how to help naturally Love it. I am a retired Nurse and saw so many people with side effects from meds I started studying herbal meds .You need to do research from ethical sources.

So, you're going to continue to focus on "supplements?"

Plus (of course) do not smoke - and if you do, quit.

Niacin is a helpful supplement to manage blood lipids - as long as it doesn't lead to excessive flushing. Do not think there is much if any controversy about this supplement.

No-flush niacin acts as a blood thinner. So anyone taking it needs to keep that in mind and notify doctors in case it interferes with other meds or objectives.

Be careful with niacin. It may be beneficial but in excess can cause liver issues. Generally speaking, I have read that 500 to 1000 mg is safe.

I took a number of antioxident supplements, niacin is only one.

But my lipids are currently normal.

Interesting to me, as I take Xarelto, a blood thinner.

At any rate, since I myself do not get flushing from niacin I wouldn't take no-flash niacin and so wouldn't need to worry about its
purported blood thinning effect.

I HAVE, however, noticed that a number of foods and medications increase blood thinning.

One thing that can act as a blood thinner is turmeric. I recently learned that a friend who's on Eliquis has been taking turmeric for a few months and he did not know that that is not a wise combination. Since he's accumulated a few bruises lately, with no known provenance, I suspect the turmeric was it contributing factor. Sometimes it seems as if there's no end to the research we have to do in an effort to take the best possible care of our health. I'm thankful for the internet because, despite a lot of untrue things floating around on it, we can actually read a lot of the scientific research. And sometimes find things that our physicians didn't warn us of or didn't know could be an issue.
