Want to talk about Multiple Myeloma: Anyone else?

Posted by Frazer 1 @frazer1, Apr 11, 2012

Asking anyone who is going thru this experience to share any pro's or con's of this disease. As of now I'm in MGUS, will find our next week if it has progress to Smoldering Myeloma.

Most not up but one did that while all three were in the red last time, the IGGKappa was back into the green. Not as low as the prior month but close. That gives me hope that other numbers might show some improvement!!!

@tml See, your numbers came down after one round! You must be pretty happy to see that, right?! I'm glad you were able to get in to get those labs done. I know you are making sure your team has those results, to call in for another round of the Revlimid. I myself am waiting for the specialty pharmacy to call me, to schedule delivery next week for my next round, too.

This will be a good gentle reminder that we have to stay on top of things ourselves, and advocate for our health. Good thing you know how important it is to get those labs and all done in the right timeframe. My oncologist told me yesterday we might take a bit of a break in a few months, give me a couple extra weeks between rounds, to let me recover a bit. I am on a very low dose because of my kidneys.

What are you doing today to celebrate this small victory? An ice cream cone and walk in the park?

We are going to see Carmen tonight! Was actually in the 2020 schedule and we are finally able to go. Was so nice here for two days and now this morning snow!!!

You were very helpful in advising me as think they were likely to stay in their schedule. The one test they seem to do here and is posted pretty quickly but the rest of the myeloma tests seem to take a few days. I was assured that all will be shared promptly with Mayo. Just hope I can get the new round by next Friday. It should be doable. It does seem to be working.

It is good if you can take a break! I know all this is hard on one’s body! I am hoping no issues for me between here and a transplant.

@tml I hope you enjoy the opera tonight! We also had freezing temps this morning.

Yes, we have to take on being our advocates in health. If you know there is a timeline, you have to step up and politely force the issue. Today, I waited for my dr's scheduler to call me with time for the next appt on 4/28. Because we are 2 hrs away, I schedule multiple appts with different drs on same day. They have always been real good about it all. I had 3 already set for 4/28, so called the oncology office to speak to the young man. Got that set, then set ones for May and June, also! He told me the dr's vacation schedule, so we will work around that. Being an involved patient is important, and being nice while we do it is icing on the cake!

Yep, it takes extra time to get some of the myeloma results in, but the critical ones to determine your next round should be out fairly fast. The pharmacy, from my experience, ships overnight by Fed Ex, so they could ship out as late as Wed next week for you to start on Fri.

Yes think will get in time. Have the actual doctor appointment next week. perhaps will change to match or perhaps not. Probably does not matter if labs fine a week ahead. I am 15 minutes away from hospital so do not have a drive or need to coordinate appointments! That would stress me out for sure!

Waiting for Carmen to start. It is nice to be out, masked up! Have my N95 on! I am such an optimist as thinking I should get an opera trio as well as reupping my symphony series. Who knows. Guess I just need to focus on getting the transplant!!!

Gosh I hate either autocorrect or perhaps fat fingers. I do hate typos!

It was wonderful. Good to get out and enjoy the evening. A busy weekend as having dinner out with friends tonight and our symphony tomorrow. Maybe labs up in Monday or Tuesday with hopefully some good numbers!

Still not back. Will check with them early tomorrow but so worried their lab will not do them in time! This is so stressful.
