Iron Depletion in Blood related to COVID?

Posted by stellm @stellm, Jun 11, 2021

Has there been any reports of iron depletion in the blood after receiving the Pfizer vaccine?

I have experienced elevated A1C levels, low iron, ferritin and hemoglobin, along with swelling of eyelids, lower legs and feet

Is there anyone here who actually got rid of their ferritin issues after only a single iron infusion? I read stories about having multiple iron infusions, so I'm wondering if there is any end in sight, or that it is just a temporary solution...

I had 2 transfusions and 3 iron infusions. That along with taking B12, folic acid and slow release iron supplements for 3 months returned all my values to normal.

Can you tell us a little more about what led you to ask this question? Do you have a history of anemia or another blood disorder?

Received Pfizer vaccine Feb 2021. Experiencing low Hgb,low iron, low ferritin, anemia, high blood sugar. No history of anemia.

I checked the VAERS data - could not find any reports of iron deficiency after vaccine. Sometimes there are coincidences. In your husband's place, I would not assume it was related to the vaccine and keep looking for the cause.

No history of anemia or other blood disorder.. Since receiving vaccine my HGB has dropped from 13 to 9, and ferritin and iron dropped below normal. A1C also changed from 6.5 and gradually increasing to 8.1. Doctors have no explanation or causes. Only thing that changed was receiving Pfizer vaccine.

After reading all of your reports and comments here, I decided to look at VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System https://wonder.cdc.gov/controller/datarequest/D8) and search for low hemoglobin or low ferritin reports. There were 420,000 adverse events reported out of 330,000,000 Covid vaccine doses administered. Of those 778 reported low hemoglobin or ferritin, 324 of those from the Pfizer vaccine. We cannot tell from this simple search exactly when, in relation to injection, these events were reported. Now is there a cause/effect proven by reporting. To make a comparison, I also looked at reduced ferritin/hemoglobin in VAERS for the Shingrix and Quadravalent flu vaccines (with far fewer doses delivered than Covid) and found 23 for each, out of 30-40 thousand VAERS reports.

I understand that this is undoubtedly underreported, especially since the discovery is coming some time after the vaccine. So, I would say that there appears to be some indication that some people may experience lower hemoglobin at a point after vaccination. In addition, it is known that some people show lower hemoglobin after having the Covid virus (even after a mild case sometimes.)

Perhaps, at some point we will come to a better understanding of all the interactions between Covid infections, the vaccine, and our bodies.

Has anyone experienced either
1) dangerously low hemoglobin of ferritin after vaccination, or
2) numbers that are not recovering?

Had my Pfizer vaccine 1 and 2 in Sep 2021. In December I was having issues with my tongue, burning and nothing tasting good. Went to my Doc in Jan 2022 and had blood test All red blood cell counts low. Hemoglobin - 8.3. Hemacrit - 30.4. MCV and MCH low. First time ever having this issue and I am 76. Get blood tests twice a year. Referred to Hematologist. First test on 2/4/22 Iron 13 and Saturation was 3. Had an Infusion a few days later. Second test 3/14/22, Iron 22 and Saturation 6%. All these problems started after the Phizer vaccines in September so do I blame an unapproved vaccine, definitely. I still work and my company required me to take the vaccine or I would not have taken it. I would not take it again for sure.

P.S. I had COVID 19 in November 2020 and no lasting adverse affects from that. It lasted about 12 days with fever and cough.

I had Pfizer in Feb 21. Now have low tron, ferritin, HGB, taking iron 3xday. Blood sugar up front 6.5 to 8.1. First test in Mar 21 and things getting worse. Someone needs to investigate this. I did not get booster as I'm concerned vaccine caused this. I'm 74 and never had these issues issues before.
