Just approved: Evusheld for the pre-exposure prevention of COVID-19

Does anyone have any more information on this just-approved by the FDA treatment for immunocompromised people? From what I am reading, it seems very exciting. Boy, what I wouldn’t give for a bit of protection from the scourge virus!

My oncologist is going to get me in for a vaccination of Evusheld! I am not a transplant patient, but I am pretty immunocompromised with active cancer and failing kidneys.

I wrote to my federal representatives and got prompt replies. I asked that they prevail upon congress to increase the amount of available Evusheld - 770,000 doses for 3.5 million people who are immunocompromised or immunosuppressed? Not good enough. Please consider writing your representatives.

Going on 17 years post transplant and am immune suppressed. I had Covid-19 vaccinations in March, April and August of 2021. I have never had Covid-19. In January this year I learned that it is recommended that I have a 4th vaccine dose. I also had an in person appointment with a local provider and 2 virtual appointments with Mayo Clinic Rochester providers from my team. I inquired about the 4th vaccine dose and the need for antibodies testing. I was told I did not need antibodies testing but that I should get the 4th vaccine dose. I am still looking for when and where I can do so. Meanwhile I received an email from the local providers that I’ve been chosen to receive Evusheld. I’ve been following this thread in Mayo Clinic Connect and have decided to first get the 4th vaccine dose, then pursue looking into the Evusheld.

My concern is whether these monoclonal antibodies against the spike protein will worsen my existing autoimmune reaction caused by the Pfizer vaccine. Published research indicates I likely still have spike protein, which was produced by the vaccine, in my white blood cells. That spike protein is the target for the monoclonal antibodies in Evusheld. I talked to my rheumatologist about this issue and she said no one knows how I would react to the Evusheld product (another Emergency Use Authorization). A note of caution for the thousands of us who experienced severe adverse reactions to the Covid vaccines.

I have CIDP. I got the two Evusheld shots this Tuesday. It's Friday and so far so good.. The Pfizer vaccine caused a relapse from being mobile on foot to walker, cane and wheelchair. I'm on IVIG infusions once a week.

@pacer3702, I have autoimmune disease caused peripheral neuropathy, which increased after receiving the Pfizer vaccinations. Unfortunately, I caught Covid last month. I’m a liver transplant recipient, as such I was becoming quite ill. I was fortunate to receive monoclonal antibody treatment. I had a more severe reaction to the treatment however, including increased numbness and pain in my feet and legs, and new numbness in my face.

Thank you for sharing this information, which is very helpful for me. I'm not immunocompromised, but had an adverse autoimmune neurological reaction to the Pfizer vaccine. Based on your experience, it seems I should avoid Evusheld. But I understand why it was the best treatment available for you. I hope you are recovering well!

Thank you for sharing your experience. I don't have CIDP, but I have some demyelination due to an autoimmune response to the Pfizer vaccine. Do you find the IVIG infusions are helping? That's terrible that the Pfizer vaccine affected your mobility to such an extent. I hope your treatments will help you to be mobile on foot again soon.
