Getting off of Seroquel

Posted by anniegk @anniegk, Jun 8, 2018

I have been on 300 mgs. Seroquel ER for over a year for augmenting my antidepressant which is 45 mgs. Of Mirtazapine. I decided to try and get off of the Seroquel. I was on 300mgs ER (extended release). I titrated down to 250 mg ER for 2 months without too many problems.than i titrated down to 200mgs ER just 5 days ago. My plan is to try to titrate off using ER tablets. My thinking is that perhaps the drug will remove its self from my system more gradually. I have had some nausea and a couple of episodes of diarrhea. I also have a very irregular heart beat and was started on 60 mgs of Propranolol ER (extended release) 4 weeks ago. It seems to be helping my heartbeat. I have wondered if the nausea and light headness is from the Propranolol, a Beta Blocker, or the dose reduction of the Seroquel. I also wonder if the way iam titrating the Seroquel is safe. My doctor says it will only take a couple of weeks...I think that is too fast of a taper after being on a drug for over a year. What do you think?

I'm so sorry to hear of Michael's added health problems and the fact that you can't be with him makes it almost intolerable for both of you! I'll be joining Lori and others in praying for you both.

Not sure how to start
Michael’s cancer has moved to stage 4
How this has all happened I don’t know
He is having his 2nd ct scan tomorrow
Then the team will decide what step is next best for him
He has been informed
I was allowed to see him yesterday
He is getting his energy though pipe in nose to get him built up cement will be in the future
He was so happy to see me
Taking so positive about all the staff
Asking about the girls
But knowing the guy he is processing all the info,no dramatics
He has a job to do
To get well..and to get home
And that is what he is doing
We have a long road ahead
Please keep us in your prayers
Love to all 💕

@hearttoheart1 Oh golly, somehow I missed this post about Michael! Thank heavens you’re able to visit him. That’s a morale booster for both you and Michael because you’ve been such a strong team together for so many years. Will you be able to see him on a more regular basis now, I hope? Will he be in the hospital the full time for his chemotherapy and recovery?

It’s encouraging how he’s taking the news. This is a lot to process but it sounds like he has a really good oncology team and is being positive about his treatments and powering through this!
I’d expect nothing less after hearing all the stories of what he’s gone through since his accident with your unwavering love and help.

By now he’s had the 2nd CT scan. Have there been any new developments? I hope he’s been gaining strength since the insertion of his feeding tube. I’m sure that’s been a challenge to get him strong enough for chemotherapy.

Does he have a laptop computer or phone so that you and the girls can talk with him with live video chats? I know with Covid it’s really a challenge for visitation. But having that contact will really be important for him when his chemo starts.
Have you heard any more about his treatment plan?

Please know that you’re both in my prayers as I send love and encouragement to you and Michael.

Seroquel withdrawal
I stopped 50 mg over the span of a few days - first to 25mg for a couple of nights and then to 12.5mgs (half a pill) for a couple of nights - a week and a half later I am experiencing what somebody else posted about Seroquel withdrawal somewhere on this mayoclinc connect forum: deep depression, complete loss of energy, some difficult getting to sleep. The stuff sucks and I don’t know why I got on these drugs in the first place. I hope this depression and complete lack of energy lifts soon. Any pilliam can be really tough to get off of (if Bill is short for William, is pill short for pilliam?) but this depression is killing me.
And don’t get me started on the damned difficulty of getting off of damned gaba pentin in the past… stressful to say the least. Anxiety through the roof.
Harrumph!

Hi! New here! 👋 So I’ve been taking Seroquel for about 2 years now to help with my Borderline Personality Disorder & depression/insomnia. Currently on 250mg of Seroquel & 100mg of Zoloft. I’ve thought about coming off Seroquel for a while cause of all the bad side effects to my overall health like my heart & whatnot from long term use, but at the same time scared cause of the possible withdrawal symptoms & what might happen to me once I stop such as not being able to sleep. The main reason I wanna come off Seroquel is because I feel my Zoloft (which was only prescribed to me almost a year) is doing most of the work on managing my depression & I don’t wanna depend on Seroquel for the rest of my life. Another reason is that my heart occasionally “skips a beat” & is worrisome to the point where I panic internally. So I’m just looking to get some options/help/advice on this situation. Thanks so much for reading!
