C. difficile – Are your guts ever normal again?
Does anyone know any body that has recovered from c.diff (guts back to pre-c.diff status ) . I have been negative for a year and still have bloating every time I eat anything and sporadic diarrhea. I need maternity clothing to eat and be comfortable. I have 0 appetite since I was initially infected.I am on creon 36,000 . this helps some what with bloating,I take papya&pineapple enzymes not helping, and floraster 2xday not sure about that.I have tried the FODMAP diet, I avoid many foods on that diet. I am seeing an RD, just finished an elimination diet with her. If I eat I bloat there for I am. Bottom line...are my guts ruined forever ?

I total agree that Clindamycin should be banned... A lot of dentist prescribe this and it causes C-Diff in most people.. The FDA should ban this drug!!
@minge Here's what I think. Whoever produces vancomycin would be out of business! If they gave you the fmt after the first round of vancomycin that didn't work, then we wouldn't need vancomycin! It's all about the money! Big pharma doesn't care about your health. They only care about the money.
@minge Also, I wonder what all the vancomycin I took is doing to my body. That remains to be seen.
Did you try Dificid or fidaxomicin ?
@minge My gastroenterologist told me after the 2nd round of vancomycin that if it didn't work, fmt would be done next. At that time, I did not know about dificid or fidaxomicin.
Also, do not assume that ongoing diarrhea means that c diff is still present unless you are being tested regularly. My husband had to tell his GI doctor after six months that he refused to take any more antibiotics. The doctor finally prescribed cholestyramine powder for off label use. He started with multiple doses a day and gradually reduced it it to zero. The binding properties of cholestyramine finally stopped the diarrhea.
I agree. It should not be used. And apparently, it is KNOWN to cause trouble with patients. Even my brother-in-law, retired MD, casually says the problems are quite prevalent in patients that have used Clindamycin. My question is, WHY do they keep using it?! I have been dealing with the aftermath since February of this year, after taking Clindamycin prescribed by my dentist. I was deathly ill and have now gratefully recovered from the C-diff but not from what it did to me. I took this drug without question because I trusted. Never again. I am fortunate that one round of Vanco got rid of the C-diff (I pray that's accurate), but I have not been the same since and I was told there is no knowing how long it will take for the body to heal. Everyone is different.
My husband caught C-Diff when he was 62 years old and since then he suffers from Ulcerative Colitis. He has had 4 bouts of C-Diff, 3 in the last year. He is going thru it right now and he is on day 3 of Dificid treatment. He is so bad, he has a lot of pain and the diarrhea is more than 15 times a day very watery. He is not eating period, lost like 15 lbs in a week and a half. Next Monday he is going to get an infusion of Zimplava, which is suppose to help with the recurrence of this annoying plague. The Zimplava has to be done when you are still under the Dificid or Vancomycin (like day 6-8).
