Has anyone experienced internal vibrations?

Posted by redladyjoni @redladyjoni, Nov 26, 2018

I started having the only way I can explain it is internal vibrations. I've had them for 3 months now, I went to t hihe ER and they told me it was anxiety. A doctor diagnosed me at a clinic as having Lyme disease I've started a 21-day prescription of Doxycycline I'm on day 7. I went to a psychiatrist a week ago to get something because of my nerves are just over the brink. He prescribed me Gabapentin and Valium I've only been on them a few days.
Has anyone experienced these internal vibrations?I have them almost 24/7 chest neck stomach from the hips down. I have more lab tests that should be in today, but the doctor's office said that they would not call unless there was some abnormality in the lab work.

Hi jlg47, I have non stop tinnitus in both ears. I also have left my car running because I didn’t hear it running. And yes, I also have internal vibrations. Lying in bed last night it was impossible to sleep until exhaustion overwhelmed me due to vibrations running from the soles of my feet, along my back and neck to my head. So I can sympathize with you. I believe the whole tinnitus/vibrations thing is at this point unknowable and uncontrollable. I rely on the American Tinnitus Association to keep me abreast of latest developments rather than pursue all kinds of half baked theories and practices you can find on the internet. I find the ATA are a pretty reliable information source in terms of what tinnitus studies are yielding promising results. Hope your problems moderate. That we can wish for because tinnitus has its ups and downs.

Hi @jlg47, Yes, the in tune with your body/heartbeat is exactly what I was referring to. I can be standing next to the dryer and not realizes it's going....it's not all the time for me though. Not yet anyway. And yes, I take 3 BP meds as well and I take something for insomnia, only because I work for Mayo and not sleeping isn't really an option. haha.

Do you think this could be due to heart issues?

Hi @amandaburnett We seem to have many common problems. I am sorry to hear of your need for 3 PB meds ( you are so much younger than I am). I do hope that they are working for you. Heart issues are often tied to high BP. My recent hospital stay required several tests that did not find obvious heart problems. I am scheduled for more testing but am not worried.
Your concern about pre-menopausal causes are hopefully not due to doctors jumping to that diagnosis as a convenient answer to every female problem that has no easy answer.
There seems to be very little R&D done for these particular problems or symptoms. The human brain is still the great unknown.
I don’t know if my inner vibration is tied to BP, heart,SSCD (ear) or as yet unknown conditions. It is comforting to know that I am not alone.
p.s. I did get some sleep last night (medicated) and awoke to no vibrations for 1st time in weeks. Sleep anyway that we can get it is so beneficial.

Hi willows, Your “is the car running or not” story is probably only one of the many stories we could swap. Lifetime tinnitus can be entertaining at times. On a more serious note, thank you for telling me about ATA. I didn’t know of them. The closest we have come to explaining my particular problem came from my ENT doctor. I have always suffered from moderate hearing loss that has progressed to severe with the years. I had an inner ear CT scan. It found a quite rare condition called superior semicircular canal dehiscence. In short it means that there is no bone protecting the fluids in the canal. Symptoms include extreme tinnitus, headaches, balance problems & hearing loss. Do you have hearing problems or any of these beyond the tinnitus? There is very little information on SSCD and no cure as yet. You tip about ATA will hopefully lead me to more info. Thanks again

I have never heard of your condition. It’s amazing how many things can happen to a body either human or animal for that matter. I guess the more complex the organism the more chances for malfunction. In answer to your question, in addition to tinnitus I also have moderate hearing loss and hyperacusis. The latter is a condition where any noise above my decibel tolerance results in rapid recruitment of sound that appears to me as though it is painful and much louder than it actually is. For example I can’t go to a restaurant where there is lots noise, or a party where everyone is having fun talking and laughing, or walking along a street where there is lots of traffic ( where isn’t there a lot of traffic, I live in Montreal)!
Anyway, about the “car running » when I get out I put my hand on the hood to see if it feels like it is silent. Otherwise, if you put it in your garage and don’t check, you might get carbon monoxide seeping into the house. Another hazard of having hearing problems.

Hello, 35 years old here.

End of July I had a dental implant followed by a dose of amoxicillin. A few days after that, I started having internal vibrations.

It’s hard to explain to anyone because they all just think it’s anxiety or in my head.

I just had an appointment with a neurologist and he set up an MRI and some tests to rule out the scary stuff. I get that next month.

Of course, using Google leaves you far more anxious than you were going in and so I decided to stop using the website completely so I’m not tempted to scare myself into looking up more bad news.

I started off feeling it when I was going to bed but now I pretty much feel it any time I am still. Feels like I am literally vibrating and nobody else can feel it but me.

Sometimes it can start in my back and in no time is radiating across my entire body, sometimes it starts in the legs and sometimes the chest. There’s just no rhyme or reason.

I started taking some b12 hoping that maybe it could be a potential trigger, so far nothing.

Weirdly, I noticed that if I stop to focus on it with all my energy, it will stop for maybe 3 or 4 seconds which I won’t even try telling my doctor because he already thinks I’m making it up lol.

No balance problems, no pins and needles, no weakness, maybe a little tired but I have sleep apnea.

I do have tinnitus, however I’ve had that most of my adult life, in fact I don’t even remember when it started, it’s just always sort of been there.

Overall, I think I need Dr. House to evaluate me and figure it out in 26 minutes including commercials.

I’ll let you know any updates

I have had them for 15 years. Eliminated gluten and lactose - no more tremors. Been good for two years, except when I mess up and eat a piece of cheese and tremors return.

Hi, this is my 1st time on Connect. I’ll introduce myself first and hopefully share with others.
I am a 74 year old female with the usual list of age related medical issues. I have been diagnosed with chronic clinical depression, take my meds. Have been for more years than I can count. My internal vibration issues started approximately 4 or 5 years ago (no particular stress present). I was very tired - laying on my bed and calling down to my husband to ask why the furness was roaring. It was NOT. It has progressed . This is the best way to describe my vibration sensation.
It is a very fine vibration throughout my entire body. It was intermittent and I ignored it as “crazy old lady syndrome “. I have had tinnitus as far back as i can remember. It flared up with a heavy pressure (feeling that my head would blow open) at about the same time. Moving on 3+ years
Neurologist = scans and 2 lumbar punctures no real or pseudo tumor.
ENT = CT scan of inner ear = Superior Semicircular Canal Dehiscence. This does not explain the vibration, but is the closest we’ve come so far. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I have had less than 2 hours sleep in the past 3 days. The vibration, pulsating engine roar and tinnitus have been 24/7 for the last 2 weeks. I am not functioning well at all. if you’re out there
Please help. thank you.

I have them too. The vibrations/tremor are not dangerous so just know that. My theory is that it is central nervous system related but I am not a doctor.

Mine resolved by eliminating gluten and lactose

Hello @khc, Welcome to Connect, an online community where patients and caregivers share their experiences, find support and exchange information with others. Thank you for sharing your experience eliminating gluten and lactose. I found an article on the gluten connection that might be helpful for you and other members with questions.
