How about a laugh, (hopefully)

Posted by Leonard @jakedduck1, Dec 31, 2018

I believe laughter is the best medicine. Laughter has actually been scientifically proven to help people with depression issues.
Let’s give it a try so we can all get happy and feel better. Many Epilepsy forums I’ve been on had joke sections. I was probably the biggest joke of all since I didn’t get a lot of the jokes. They said the jokes couldn’t be above 4th grade level for me to understand them so my jokes may be rather simplistic but let’s give it a try.
Have a lovely day everyone,
Jake

Ever been invited to a sleep study?

And then there is getting up to go to the bathroom with all those wires connected 😂

@johnbishop I had a Mayo sleep study, nothing like this, but then it was. A Cardiologist had me 'check out' a tiny device that attached to my finger, I was to go back to the hotel room, sleep for the night, and bring the device back in the next day for our consultation. Needless to say, my experience was to lie awake all night and watch my finger, and most likely walk to the bathroom with it. Didnt sleep at all. The consultation said I had sleep apnea, and I argued that's impossible, I didn't sleep! I was awake all night long.

@Erinmfs I think you may have had a pulse oximeter for checking the oxygen level during sleep. I had that one also before I had the sleep study done downtown at Mayo. The cartoon pretty much summed it up for me but probably not that many wires although I did get a few chuckles as the tech walked me from the room where they wire you up and to the sleeping room with all the wires hanging loose and the tech hold them as we were walking.

I had a sleep study done. They told me to sleep on my back. I don't do that! They called it quits at 6 hrs. Never did get to REM sleep. Laying there with things poking you, and knowing a camera is on you. Would you sleep?!

@gingerw I think that was my problem with just the pulse oximetry on my finger. I couldn't get comfortable with the wires and the little transmitter recorder box. I can't sleep on my back either! I watched my finger with the clip on it for hours, I may have slept for 2 hours that night in Rochester. When I had my consultation regarding the outcome of the test, I balked at the results, as I was awake most of the time. If i'm was going to continue with the possiblility of sleep apnea, I wanted to redo that test for reasonable results.

After my Dad and my daughter both experienced this, I just scoff when they tell me to have one. My brother had one in a sleep lab where they ask you your preferred position - then they told him "but we'd rather you sleep on your back.

Someone needs to find a better way...

When I had my sleep study at Rochester Mayo I was asked to sleep on my back for a portion of the test but I also slept some on my side which is normal for me. I think that sleep apnea is more prevalent when sleeping on your back so they want to see how bad your numbers are for that portion of the test (IMHO). My overall score was around 55 events. They also had me switch masks and CPAP devices a couple of times during the night.

I'll remember this one next time I'm waiting a really long time!

Now this one makes me really happy I'm a Mayo patient. I don't believe I've ever had to wait more than a few minutes once in the exam room. 🙂
