After my Dad and my daughter both experienced this, I just scoff when they tell me to have one. My brother had one in a sleep lab where they ask you your preferred position - then they told him "but we'd rather you sleep on your back.

Someone needs to find a better way...

When I had my sleep study at Rochester Mayo I was asked to sleep on my back for a portion of the test but I also slept some on my side which is normal for me. I think that sleep apnea is more prevalent when sleeping on your back so they want to see how bad your numbers are for that portion of the test (IMHO). My overall score was around 55 events. They also had me switch masks and CPAP devices a couple of times during the night.
