Posted by bosco17 @bosco17, Mar 24, 2021

They said after first shot 17 out of 800+patients had only a minimal antibody reaction .Also being on mycophelonate reduces effect of vaccines.WHATS GOING ON ??????

@athenalee I have read that they are giving transplant patients the third shot already in Europe. So far there does not appear to be a downside to it so I hope it will be approved soon. Of course the downside to not getting it is that we are vulnerable. I wish I was more comfortable in my antibody rating of 13.83 but I'm not sure how much protection that provides.

Thanks for the updates. I wonder what antibody levels are considered a good, protective response?
Just came across this Canadian study of 120 participants which is happening now and hopefully will add something helpful.

I took two Moderna shots and had Zero antibodies, after taking he third shot I do have antibodies. After my 4th shot I will have the lab measure exactly how much antibody protection I have. I should know in 4 weeks.

For the benefit of the rest of us with two shots, the transplant community through the Transplant Surgeons and FDA are not recommending a 3rd or 4th shot. It's on their website. But my question is, are you working with you GP or local doc to get the shots or just scheduling an appt with a vac center? And is any of this covered by insurance or is it an out of pocket? Thanks.

As I looked at the Johns Hopkins study, 30% of the study participants received immunity after the 3rd shot. Additionally France now approved a third shot for compromised patients. I did let my doctors know ( MAYO and local ) that I was planning a third shot. None would recommend it, however I thought it was worth the risk. I just went to my local pharmacy - asked for a shot - and it was given, no charge, no questions asked. My next shot is next week and two weeks after that my local Doctor will run the test to see how much antibody I have. None of this is recommended by any Doctor nor U.S. agency. I just thought it was worth the risk for myself, as locally the Delta variant is concerning and at a nearby hospital the number of Covid patient went from 8 to 20 ( all unvaccinated ) in one week. Hope this helps.

Excellent information. Thanks. I have recommended the JH and French study to others. Let us know how it works out. Wish you the best. You're conducting your own private research study.

@benlam11 I was about to ask you the same question. This is the first I have heard of a 4th shot, I would be happy to get the third one but since it is against the advice of my hospital I wonder what it might do to my standing there.
As I have mentioned before, I do have some immunity, I just don't know how much protection my number provides. I am very tempted to get a third one myself but for now I will wait. The Delta variant is very concerning though.

@benlam11,
-Thank you for taking ownership and responsibility for your decision.
-Thank you for clarifying that this administration of a 3rd and potential 4th dose is not recommended by your doctors.

I am quite concerned, however, with the ease with which you were able to walk in and get the unapproved additional doses. I can’t help but wonder if anyone might be harming themselves by an unregulated extra dose.

I wish that you and others who take this approach were connected to a research study.

Keep in touch.

My Hospitalization info comes from a nurse that works in the Covid ward. Sine I live in Las Vegas, we get hundreds of thousands of tourists each week, making the spread inevitable. Especially with only about 50% of locals vaccinated. I also have not been able to visit overseas family in 2 years. So (on my own) I will attempt to get immunity, especially since I feel our FDA nor MAYO does not seem to be leading research. So my only option seems to be JH (who is investigating a third shot).

I did contact JH prior to my third shot. I also notified my MAYO doctors in Phoenix. There were no takers however, and my Phoenix team seemed uninterested. I assumed they were letting the FDA take the lead. I do trust the French Health Care system and if they approved it - it's good enough for me.

In Las Vegas we now have a Delta+ variant. It is concerning that it may bypass the vaccines. There have been several vaccinated people that have caught Covid after the packed Hockey playoffs. I just know the infection rate is increasing daily - now over 5, when it was down in the low 3's.
