Adult Onset Atopic Dermatitis
I was diagnosed after 14 months of mystery rashes and itching. I have had to switch all personal products and many household products to avoid triggers. I am wondering if anyone has found a good body moisturizer that lasts more than two hours or facial products that have enough moisture and don't block pores and cause breakouts.

Exactly! I found the same to be true. My Mayo Clinic dermatologist signed me up for SkinSafe App and web site. I love it!! Are you familiar with it? Let the computer do the work. My allergies are put in by the provider and it automatically assigns safe products. Includes categories for hair products, makeup, skin care, household products, baby stuff, bath products healthcare, etc.
I didn't know SkinSafe App had that option, thanks for the info. I use the ACDS Camp list which my allergist signed me up with based upon my 5 Day Extended Patch Test results, these lists are a big help because in the beginning I didn't even know where to begin, yet they are not perfect in my case. Many recommended products may not have my listed allergens, but something else in the causes a reaction. Trial and error still goes on.
I looked up the SkinSafe app and I learned that we can submit our own list of allergens, we don't need a doctor to do this. I know certain contacts that were not positive on my 5 Day Extended Patch Test cause symptoms in me, for example: phenoxyethanol and wool both make me itch and lavender while in bloom or rubber tires give me an immediate headache simply walking past. Also some of us are avoiding certain elements that are known common allergens that we may be avoiding to postpone developing a reaction in the future can be filtered this way.
The site says we can send them a personalized list.
Hi @sandrajune @impatient @babbs @nimska @gardeningjunkie @kimass1 and welcome @nimska. Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. What are you biggest triggers that worsen your condition or cause flares? Has the changing season affected you lately?
Colleen I hope you are heathy and happy.
I'm free of my 3 types of eczema and have been able to resume my previous lifestyle yet I am always protective avoiding my triggers.
Allergic Contact Dermatitis: free for over 2 1/2 years based upon avoidance of allergic contact results of the 5 Day Extended Patch Test about 5 years ago. This helped with external rashes, but it did not to stop my internal sensations inside my skin of zapping stinging, burning a pain which were becoming more acute, then made dietary changes with the most significant change zero processed sugar for life. Now free of these sensations for almost 3 years.
Grover's Disease, GD: did a heavy metal detox with cilantro for over 5 months which I learned about on this site slowly put it in remission 2 years ago.
Perioral Eczema, PE: eliminating steroidal nasal spray cleared the rash the circular rash around my mouth, that was about 3 years ago. I have no recurrence of PE.
Hi! I have been completely itch free for six months and Grover's free for over 2 years! I attribute that to the Cilantro smoothies. Not sure what was triggering my itching ( I had an additional unexplained rash that ran concurrent to my Grover's ) but it has so far run it’s course. Thanks for checking in. I hope you find relief soon.
I hope our successes inspire other's to keep battling their eczema and learn how to manage it. For both of us it took years of trial and error. I'm not saying it won't mutate or some other form of eczema won't attack us, yet we both know intensive personal study and being personally proactive is a necessity in this battle.
I am doing generally, very well. If my skins gets dry, I get uncomfortable. Or if I use a product with a substance I am sensitive I have issues. I recently added Amlactin lotion to my routine and I am staying moisturized longer than with the thick Vanicream, which surprised me. My main sensitivities are to botanicals, which really limits my skin and hair care options. But I am managing it pretty well.
Update: I am mostly rash free, and still have an itch across my mid-back between and over my scapulae (no rash there.) Mysteriously, I'll randomly have one bump pop out that's intensely itchy to the point of burning. I will use hypochlorous acid first (I make it at home and keep with me in my car, and in all my bathrooms.) If that doesn't get rid of it, I'll use clove oil. If that also doesn't work, I will use diclofenac sodium cream (sold OTC as Voltaren) - an anti-inflammatory cream. Just a dab of any of these products will usually take care of the problem. As the weather heats up, I can develop a patch of red, itchy bumps in an area previously unaffected, like the top of my thigh. The hypochlorous acid usually does the trick. Rash disappears within minutes. If I sweat, I wash the sweat off as soon as possible. So basically, I still know that the problem is there, but it's kept at bay. The cilantro and chlorella smoothies did not work for me with regard to my rash, but I still do it for about a week every couple of months, just for the detox. I use pine tar soap on my body and put tea tree oil in whatever shampoo I am using. This keeps my scalp free from itching. I don't restrict my activities at all
I am just discovering that I probably have Grovers. I appreciate reading all the solutions you are finding. Unfortunately, I am one of those who HATE cilantro!
