Nights sweats and Shingrix vaccine

Posted by mjq @mjq, May 21, 2021

I had the shingles vaccine on May 4. That night I experienced a terrible night sweat. Ever since that night I sweat every night excessively. At least one or two nights a week I must get up and change my night clothes completely. I am on immune suppressant drugs. Has anyone else experienced this?

You will notice that I have removed your other post in the Just Want to Talk Group in order for members to respond to you in this discussion. That said, the night sweating has been going on now for nearly three weeks. Do you happen to have any other health conditions, like Neuropathy, that may be playing into this?

I have night sweats every night since getting my second Pfizer vaccine. It is like reliving perimenopause. Even though I have been post-menopause for over 15 years, I have also experienced symptoms that resemble PMS...fluid retention, weight gain, puffiness, emotional reactions ...etc. I would love to know if any others have had this happen.

No neuropathy. Have had numerous tests to rule out other issues including CT scan and blood test. All are negative.

The only thing I can tell you is that after my 2nd dose of Shingrix Vaccine the end of 2019 and it wreaked havoc on my body. Night Sweats, burning throughout my body, affected my legs and walking, off balance could hardly walk, panic attacks. It came on me suddenly shortly after having the second dose, and those symptoms stayed with me for a full 4 months! Also, neuropathy was ruled out but yet my legs, feet, etc. were a mess. As fast at it came on me and lasted that long, it suddenly DISAPPEARED 4 months later. No meds helped me whatsoever. It came, It went.

I had all kinds of tests done during that period and non one could find out what was wrong. My leg issues was severe enough to be sent to physical therapy where the DOCTOR listened to ME and I told him what was happening in my life, how I did RESEARCH on my own AFTER having this vaccine and read over 300 cases of people having problems with this vaccine. Some problems were minor, some people had symptoms like mine that lasted more than 4 months and at that time were still having problems, and some had problems that were worse.

Right before starting therapy I had to see the doctor again, and was VERY SURPRISED that he told me after listening to me he did his own research, and he was convinced that my problems were related to that Vaccine. I had neurologist testing, gastro testing, then orthopedic testing which were all negative except I do have degeneration in my bones, but the Therapy Doctor, not the one that worked on me told me it was related to the Vaccine in his opinion. So, I can only go by my symptoms and that is what I'm telling you happened to me.

I'm not telling you that this is your problem but it was my problem so you can look into it if you want, there are many sources where you can read up about the reactions and problems of Shingrix.

My closing statement is: I always took whatever vaccine that I was told to take my whole life. I never had any problems that I can remember. I took the original Shingles vaccine where they used a live virus I think, and no issues so when the new Shingles vaccine came out I was not afraid to take it, so I did. First dose went fine, but the second dose was the problem. Now I won't take anymore vaccines because I am afraid BUT that is ONLY ME! I'm just answering your question but gave you more detail as to what has happened to me.

M,53 - Has first Shingles jab (Shingrix 50MG/0.5ML SUSR) - I wasn't expecting any side effects since I had not experienced any with Covid vaccine including booster. Also no side effects from Flu vaccine. Covid and Flu vaccines were takes more than 60 days before the Shingles jab. It took me out. A couple of hours after the vaccine i got Nausea, Headache, stomach discomfort, sore neck and shoulder and NIGHT SWEATS. I've never experienced NIGHT Sweats and it wasn't on the list of side effects. Its 2.5 days since the jab and still having a headache. Hope this goes away. Are Night Sweats a known side effect?

Hi @sancho, vaccinations are hit and miss as far as side effects go in people. Some folks are lucky and have nothing, others can feel pretty miserable with aches, flu-like symptoms, fever, headache, upset stomach, etc.. In the last year I’ve received more than 30 vaccinations, as well as flu and covid shots after my bone marrow transplant. Most of the time it was just very sore arms. This year’s flu shot had me needing Tylenol to reduce fever and chills. I woke up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat.

I’m wondering if you had a fever and it broke? That can cause some perspiring. Did you take your temperature when you were feeling so awful?

i had the heavy nights sweats for 5 weeks after the first Shingrix shot. They tappered very gradually and were miserable at first. Also had digestive problems including nausea and loss of appetite. I do not plan to take the second as I don't want to go through the night sweats again. Mentioned the sweats to my doctor and he confided that he too had night sweats. This should be a "listed" side effect.

My husband and I also had reaction to the Shingrix vaccination, but it was basically flu-like symptoms and fatigue for a day afterwards. We also had our flu shot the same day.

My husband never went back for his second dose of the Shingrix. I got mine and no problem the second time.

I was worried this week when I went for my flu shot, but just a bit of a sore arm this time round. I mentioned to the pharmacist our reaction to Shingrix and he said “that can be a rough one”.

Shingles would be much worse. I’m sorry for your lengthy suffering over this shot!

You are a trooper! 30 vaccinations (re-doing all the vaccinations from your entire life!?) and a bone marrow transplant. My problems are like a tiny mosquito compared to your enormous gorilla. Sending kind thoughts to you as you recover!
