Nights sweats and Shingrix vaccine

Posted by mjq @mjq, May 21, 2021

I had the shingles vaccine on May 4. That night I experienced a terrible night sweat. Ever since that night I sweat every night excessively. At least one or two nights a week I must get up and change my night clothes completely. I am on immune suppressant drugs. Has anyone else experienced this?

I had no idea the shingles shot would cause all of these symptoms! I had been told by two Drs I should get these and finally decided to get mine yesterday while at the grocery store since I have PBC. So far only pain at injection site some neck pain. I have leaves to rake today and hopefully will help with sore arm. Prayers for you all to feel better and have a nice Thanksgiving.

I got the first shot and no problem. Yesterday 3/12/22 I got the second. Soreness at the injection area yesterday. Today soreness at injection area and ache all over my body. I also am abnormally sweating. After reading all the comments above looks like I should not have gotten this vaccine.

@cherylnj, my experience was the exact same as yours. I had no reaction to the first shot, but the second one made me feel like a had a mild flu for 24 hours. I got my shot on a Friday so I could take the weekend to deal with any potential side effects. My PCP had warned me this could happen with either shot. My husband was the opposite. He had flu-like symptoms with the first shot and nothing with the second.

I'm glad I got Shingrix. I've had shingles and dealing with a day of flu-like symptoms was worth boosting my immunity from getting shingles again. I hope you feel better tomorrow.

I had my original shingle shot many years ago. Then the first Shingrix in 2019, when it came for my second shot, the pharmacy ran out, then came the pandamic and everything shut down. Now it's been 2 years and my doctor wants me to take the second shot. My pharmacist questions the effectiveness since a very long long time elapsed between the 1st and 2nd shot. Now I wonder if I should get it st all. Btw, my son in law got chills and fever too after the second shot.

Man! I got taken out by the first shingles vax dose. I have never been that laid out. administered on Friday noon. Went to bed at 21:00 and slept until 14:00 the next day. Woke up in the middle with itchy legs, the kind you can't scratch and quivering to point I couldn't walk (maybe the "chills"). Felt better the next day and couldn't fall asleep until 3:00 on Sunday. Had itchy legs again and more mild quivers but slept until 20:00 Sunday night. Went back to bed at 23:00 and slept until 8:00 this morning. Holy crap. It's monday noon and I still feel like I am in some weird fog. Can't wait until the next dose. Yikes.

I had the shingles vaccine two days ago, and had night sweats for two nights, a sensation in my body like if I have an infection, and a ponding headache that started the next morning after the shot

Unfortunately I had the vaccination in 2016 and still have shingles like feeling in my right leg. I also had night sweats until last year. My doc said it might have caused a autonomic nervous system disregulation that hopefully would settle in time.

A hematologist told me a few years ago that what we thought was a case of shingles was, in reality a case of Clarkson Disease (CALR) or "Systemic Fragile Vascular Disease" or something like that. I have checked, and I do not have shingles (no chicken pox) but I do have CALR. The blood vessels just under one's external or organ skin become breakable, and give itching, pain, redness, black, gray or blue skin. It is mostly on lower legs on me, but also on my urinary tract (bladder, urethra, etc.) oldkarl

I came to this post because I too am having a rough time with constant hot flashes and night sweats. I got my Shingrix vaccine three weeks ago and it has been going on since that time. I am in perimenopause but this is FAR more extreme than anything I was experiencing day to day. I also noted that I looked everywhere for this side affect and it was not listed at all. I do not have any other health issues and this came out of the blue after my second Shingrix shot. No side effects affects occured after my first shot. It is almost unbearable. I get hot flashes once an hour or more, sometimes two or three an hour. Nights are awful because those hot flashes wake me up and I am burning up, sweating, then throw off the covers and I am freezing. I am not sleeping well and haven't for weeks. Yesterday after a flash I took my temp several times (I was feeling nauseous as well...so much so I was afraid to eat dinner) and it was weirdly low. 96.7, 96.8. The nausea passed when the hot flash passed but they just go on and on. It is awful. I am a 50 year old woman.

I also reacted to shingles vaccine but stemmed it immediately w Valtrex! Godsend! I have a lot of immune issues and years ago was put on this anti viral to protect me. You might want to check it out. I am on a gram a day for life . Very grateful!

I had my 2nd Shingles vaccine 1/13/23. I had pain at the injection site and achy leg muscles shortly thereafter. Had a slight headache that night that faded. But most surprising was the intensive headache I developed on day 3 along with the night sweats that started on day 2. Yes. My night-shirt was wet enough each time I had to change in the middle of the night. I never had this reaction before to a vaccine. Was quite concerned my hormone regulating system had been affected. My headache was also different in that it mostly hurt on the sides of my head, (not the front), and it hurt in the back of my head along the outer left and right edges from just above the base of skull down to my shoulder blades. Also I noticed sound sensitivity. It’s now 1/18 and the symptoms have subsided. I’m just thankful it did not turn into a long sustained systemic effect. And I’m hoping I never need to get another shingles vaccine.
