Pain in eye after cataract surgery: When does it get better?
Hi friends has anyone had pain behind the eye 9 to 12 months after the cataract surgery? My husband still going down a dark road fighting the pain in his eyes he’s been to so many physicians no one seems to know what it is they all say his eye and cataracts are fine the surgery went well he had a expensive cataract lens put in which is called a panoptic, he feels the doctor did not place it properly or that is too strong for his eye. He’s been on drop after drop five or seven different drops sometimes they help most of the time they don’t.

Hi - I looked back into your discussions, and see that your husband has been suffering for many months following his cataract surgery. You mentioned last year doing a consult at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute - did he see a neuro-ophthalmologist or post-cataract specialist there? If so, what was their conclusion?
Did his extreme photosensitivity resolve?
Sue
He did go to palmer, They did all the tests and the doctor said to go back to the surgeon there was nothing that he could find photo sensitivity is something he has to live with unless it disappears it had lightened up a little bit and now he has pain in the eye I don’t know if it’s stress related or what he went back to the surgeon twice they found nothing they said come back in a year and that they want him to see an allergist, he does have sinus issues and I think that is affecting his eye.
Well, that is certainly a possibility - when I had chronic sinus issues, I had headaches, eye and tooth pain - the ENT finally figured out the source - worth checking it out!
Sue
thanks sue
My cataracts were removed in January 2020. Both eyes were extremely nearsighted since age 2. I wore contact lenses for over fifty years. Since surgery both eyes hurt nearly all the time. I have spent hundreds of dollars on glasses that work for reading but pain results quickly. I am not a candidate for contact lenses. Reading is difficult at best. I have been to several ophthalmologists, including at the University of Iowa.
Hello @gocy and welcome to Connect. We’re a group of individuals who share our health conditions and resources, and what has worked/not worked for us. But, we are not doctors so we can’t diagnose or prescribe medications.
And you’ve had this eye pain for over 18 months now? That a long time to be experiencing pain! What has the eye surgeon said and how is he treating it?
I am not receiving any treatment. My primary has prescribed a pill for seizures. The pill prevents bad headaches and facial pain,but doesn’t help the eyes. The surgeon has not been helpful from the beginning.
@gocy
Was the seizure med he gave you Topamax by chance?

No
Sorry that you are suffering like this! I'm also a longtime contact lens wearer and would hate to give up wearing contacts. What did the ophthalmologist at the University of Iowa tell you?
