Pain in eye after cataract surgery: When does it get better?

Posted by sunny1971 @sunny1971, Apr 28, 2021

Hi friends has anyone had pain behind the eye 9 to 12 months after the cataract surgery? My husband still going down a dark road fighting the pain in his eyes he’s been to so many physicians no one seems to know what it is they all say his eye and cataracts are fine the surgery went well he had a expensive cataract lens put in which is called a panoptic, he feels the doctor did not place it properly or that is too strong for his eye. He’s been on drop after drop five or seven different drops sometimes they help most of the time they don’t.

In reply to Sunny 1971@sunny1971. I had cataract surgery in one eye (had Fuchs Dystrophy). The pain did not subside ( usually on a scale 5) and it has been 2 years. I use Tylenol. Decided not to have the other eye done. I was told that sometimes cataract surgery does not improve the eye. I have edema in eye. Sure hope you do better.

If one's eye is affected by clouding of their natural lens, then only the removal of that lens will provide clarity.

the cataract was removed and a lens was put in for distance.....the sight is pretty good on certain days, but tires out; also get pain and edema of the eye.

I had cataract surgery 2 weeks ago. On ride home from procedure excruciating pain dr treated me for severe scratch over eye then past 5 days severe floaters and horrible stabbing pain in my eye all trout the day

He put an embryo membrane and contact over it. Removed contact 9 days ago and another membrane. I’m so regretful getting this done. Eyesight isn’t any better but the stabbing pains are so severe takes my breath away

@rwinney Hello
I know it has been awhile, but here is the latest update.
still have pain in my right eye whenever I move it to suddenly or at an acute angle. I no longer have dry eye after several years of Bruder pads, borage oil. and cleaning my eye lids each morning. Yeah!
After cataract surgery, it took mr 2.5 years and 7 prescriptions to finally see clearly. It turns out that I had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic eye drops used after the surgery. My eyes just swelled up and took forever to go back to normal size/shape.I repeatedly told the surgeons that I had major reactions to many antibiotics. I guess that message didn't mean anything to them.

Please, Please do your home work when choosing an eye surgeon for cataract surgery. It is not all ways a walk in the park.

I agree, the walk in the park might be Jurassic Park. I'm sorry I had the cataract surgery on my left eye, it will be a LONG time before I have my right eye done.
