Help: Chest pain, high heart rate, exhaustion

Posted by amm97 @amm97, Feb 2, 2020

Update: I'm still having chest pain almost 4 months, high heart rate and now exhaustion. Every test has came back normal and my doctor doesn't really know what else to do. Does anyone on here know if it would be worth it to go to Mayo and see if they can't figure it out. I'm at my witts end, I'm in pain 24/7 and I don't know what else to do. For anyone who hasn't been following my journey the tests I've had done are CT of abdomen and pelvis, echo, chest xray, multiple blood tests, holter monitor, ekgs, kidney Doppler and ultrasound, upper GI scope. I've also tried medications like proilsec, a prescription for anti-inflammatory. These havent helped my chest pain.

@lioness Linda, Good morning! Is the referral you mentioned to see another doctor? You’ve been such an active person, I hate to see you slow down! Will you stay in touch with me? Becky

I also started having high heart rate and even developed a murmur that my primary and other doctors dismissed at normal variation in a lot of people and nothing to worry about but then when it started to causing skipped beats and I couldn’t keep up breathing wise and would be exhausted they sent me to a cardiologist and again echo, ekg, stress tests and even holter was fine and nothing was addressed. I went to mayo for brain lesions, fatigue and muscles they heard the murmur and wanted to do echo and found Bicuspid Aortic valve which is a congenital heart defect. I’m not sure about other congenital valve disorders but this one does cause high heart rate (resting above 100bpm) so sometimes it seems maybe they don’t have capabilities with medical imaging in other hospitals or maybe not specifically knowing what to look for as well? I found out after that my grandpa and great grandpa died of heart disease and my aunt also has same issue. Still makes me wonder if he was ever told specifics or was having valve monitored for prevention of heart failure. So 100% any doubt deserves second opinions. I have two echos one normal and one not within months and scary.

Good morning @manda304 Have you learned anything these past 2 weeks? I agree, it would be scary living with the unknown. Is there any treatment plan for the heart valve?

Years of chest pain and no real help

I have been living with chest pain for the last several years. I’ve the last few months it’s gotten worse. Before I continue note that I stopped smoking back in April of last year. My primary dr keeps sending me to different doctors and nobody can give me an answer. First of all, I little under a year ago (like 11 months) my father passed away of a heart attack at the age of 79. About a week later I experienced an anxiety attack. My dr sent me to an cardiologist just to be safe. He ran a nuclear stress test and did an echo stress test and found nothing. Said I was good. Shrilly after my chest started hurting again, my blood pressure kept shooting up to around 150/100. After about 30 mins it would go away but the pain never did. So, I was sent to a gastroenterologist. He did a scope and found a very tiny hiatal hernia, an ulcer, and al sorts of acid. Also believes I’m having esophagus spasms. Ok, so he gave me some pills. The whole summer I was good. No pain at all. Then starting around in December the pain came back. Not too bad. Didn’t last long. I started exercising and stuff too as I am well over weight by like 100 lbs. the pain started getting worse. Last month it got really bad. I’m getting dizzy, feeling bad, stomach and chest pain. Like hard pressure chest pain. Feeling pressure in my eyes and face. Left arm pain and numbness. Blood pressure goes up and down. All of those seems to happen after I eat and lt doesn’t seem to matter what I eat. So, I go back to the gastroenterologist. He does another scope finds that the l er is gone but I still have a lot of acid build up. Basically tells me to lose weight. Currently I’m 6,3 295 lbs. I know I’m over weight but I’m not like super crazy fat. So, I guess my question is, should I get my heart looked at again? I feel miserable 24/7. I have chest pain constantly, I’m dizzy all the time, which I do have sever sinus blockage also. I don’t feel like I can do anything at all. This sucks. I need help and I don’t know what else to do.

I also forgot to add that my primary doctor has increased my blood pressure meds a lot. My feet and ankles then started to swell up. So she changed my meds and the swelling went away.my blood pressure has been really good though in fact lower than normal. It’s been hovering around 114/70- 125/85. Heart rate is around 75 when resting.

I will add one more thing. Yesterday I was sitting in a meeting about an hour after eating two slices of little Cesar pizza and my heart rate shot you randomly. I felt awful and felt like I was about to black out. I got up and started walking and immediately felt better.

@rogersd With everything that you describe, have you thought of getting a second opinion?

I’ve gotten multiple opinions. That’s why I came here. I don’t know what else to do. I’ve had 4 different heart tests done over the last 5 years most recent was last May. All negative. I’ve had countless stomach scopes done by 2 different doctors also. I’m currently going to a chiropractor which actually seems to be helping. Obviously he’s not a cure but just helping with the symptoms.

Hi everyone thank you so much for reading through this. I’m 30 male, and have asthma, GERD, and allergies(trees and grass).I recently moved from NY to NC. When I came down here my allergies were so terrible I could not breathe through my nose for 2 weeks. I had to mouth breathe and ended up having an asthma attack. Since that day I have never recovered. I have had constant chest pain, some days it’s manageable and other days it’s unbearable. And I can’t find any relief and have trouble sleeping.

I’ve gotten blood tests, chest x rays, EKGs and CT scan with contrast. Nothing comes up. My full symptoms are chest pain that can be from one side to the other and in the middle. Chest soreness and tenderness to the touch. Back pain, leg pain when walking. Shortness of breath. I’ve been pretty sedentary for a while now and contribute leg pain to when I have to actually be productive. The back pain lately could be from sitting up on the couch with no back support for hours a day.

When I went to the ER they performed many tests and one doctor said I had anxiety. I’ve been on anxiety meds only for a week so far with no improvements. My pulmonologist changed my inhaler and that hasn’t improved or made the situation worse. I’m very confused on what this can be. Part of me thinks something musculoskeletal, costochondritis, anxiety, and of course googling makes everything worse.

Hi I also have the same type of chest pain as you describe. Same type of tests as well. What I found was that exposure to animals was the precipitating factor. When I gave my dog to my brother the pain went away in a few weeks. If you have an animal it might be worth a try having a friend or relative look after it for a few weeks to see if that makes any difference. Good luck.
