Uterine clear-cell carcinoma, chemo treatment unknowns

Posted by vika @vika, Mar 20, 2021

Hi there! My mum has been diagnosed with Carcinoma of uterine body pT3bN1aM1 (Metastases of clear cell carcinoma in one of the ovaries, uterine tube, the greater omentum, lymph nodes). On 1st of March she had surgery: radical hysterectomy, lymph node dissection along the iliac blood vessels, omentectomy (Kyiv, Ukraine). She was discharged from the hospital and recommended chemotherapy. In different clinics in Kyiv we were offered 4 or 6 rounds of Carboplatin + Paclitaxel. Is it a right (internationally proved) schema?

One complication for choosing treatment is deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in her legs. In one clinic we were told to wait 2 weeks taking Rivaroxaban 20 mg until starting the chemo. In another clinic, we were told to start chemo next week because it’s dangerous to wait in the long term. I’m very concerned about different suggestions, considering and thinking about the long term and short term risks...
I'll really appreciate it if you could share any useful info/share your experience... Thanks!!

Hi
Just finished 4 brain radiation treatments. Brain cancer was the result of ovarian cancer spreading to the brain - unusual occurrence! Be prepared to feel fatigued and out of sorts - tipsy!
Don't drive, be careful walking - you might be off balance. Also, I lost some hair. The good news is that radiation did not hurt! Soon it will be over!

@starko, how often did you have the treatments? In other words, how were they spaced out? Are you starting to recover your balance and energy again or is it too soon to ask?

Colleen,
My radiation treatments were spaced two per week. I had another option of receiving all the treatments during one session, but because it involved my cerebellum, we decided it would be too risky. It has been a week since my last treatment and the side effects are diminished, not so foggy, better balance, more alert!
I am guessing radiation in other parts of the body would be less.severe.

Sounds like a challenge but you are accepting well! thank you for sharing!! I saw some older posts here. I will be having 25 pelvic radiation treatments and 2 brachy starting in the next week or so. Seems like the right plan for clear cell that was in one lymph node. I am worried most about fatigue. I am really worn out right now after my 6th chemo 2 1/2 weeks ago. most of my chemo was just not that bad but maybe catching up with me now! Thank you Colleen for soliciting posts. everyone's story is helpful. Eileen

How nice to hear from Lviv. My father is from there and my cousin is head of cardiology at a local hospital in Kviv, Dr, Yuri Starko.

Hello, I am looking to hear more about Uterine Clear Cell cancer. I had a radical hysterctomy last fall with clear cell in 1 lymph node, making it stage III for me. I am about to have my last chemo and then consult with the radiologist. Interested to learn more about the radiation treatments others had, where, the side effects and results. How long to feel you were recovered from chemo and radiation. Thank you

Hi @ejohn, how are you? May I ask you what exact drugs for chemo did you get? How was it? I'm asking for my mum, she has a similar diagnosis and has radical hysterctomy as well. Also how long after surgery did you start the first chemo round? Did you have any issues with deep vein thrombosis? Sorry for the very specific questions, feel free to ignore it If I asked too much. Thanks

@erikas Thanks for adding the relevant information for me! Unfortunately, she can't get chemo treatment at the same place so we are looking for facility options. And it's a bit hard because different places offer different options for treatment.

Hello @vika, I am sorry I didn't reply sooner. I had 6 rounds of carboplatin and taxol. It was just not too bad for me. I had bone pain that was the worst with the first treatment. I had fatigue that progressively increased with treatment but wasn't too bad. there were days I couldn't stand for more than 10 minutes, but it was all okay, I just got prepared it would get worse. i had very little nausea, mostly after the last treatment. That is usually a big side effect. I still have numbness and tingling in my fingers and toes but am hopeful for continued improvement. I didn't start chemo for about 5 weeks. I have to look. i was in a hurry but you also want to make sure the wound is healed, and that is mainly the internal vaginal cuff. I did not have deep vein thrombosis. Please feel free to ask, I would be glad to help in anyway I can. Eileen

Hi @ejohn and @cichocki06, I'm wondering if you decided to have radiation and have you started?

I had my practice radiation today and start tomorrow. Planned for 25 tx plus 2 brachy to the vaginal cuff. Ready for the next step and closer to being healed.

Hello @vika, I am sorry I missed your posts and did not reply sooner. I am wondering if your mother did start chemo already? I had 4-5 weeks in between but maybe with hers they are pushing on since it sounds like it was outside the lymph nodes. My previous reply to your post to me explained why they had me wait a few weeks. I had one positive lymph node but everything else was clear. I hope it is going well and decisions are clear. Eileen
