MAC and getting the COVID vaccine

Posted by cmi @cmi, Jan 6, 2021

This is a wonderful team...like a real cooperativa family...we are a band of patients that strategize together...amazing. All good dialogue for “rits”...I also believe the CAT scan would be a good step...it arms the doctor with evidence.

I have another question for the group...what are the feelings on “us” being candidates for the Covid vaccine? Has anyone yet vaccinated? I see my ID doc this afternoon...it is one of my concerns. Any feedback appreciated.

Thank everyone that spoke/wrote a response. I live in NC....Mecklenburg County is having “distribution issues “...but perhaps I will have clarity after 4pm today. My friends in South Florida...front line healthcare received, staff/residents in long term care have, and yesterday friends of mine with “no reportable underlying medical issues” (all 65 or older) received their first dose. I agree that novelty of this virus, speed of vaccine release, and lack of consistency whether communication and/or action has left many of us in doubt. My ID doc did not hesitate 2 seconds to inject me for this year expected Flu villians, so I am very curious to hear what his decision is. Will keep in touch.

@cmi You are wanting to know member's thoughts regarding the COVID-19 vaccine and people diagnosed with, "MAC & Bronchiectasis."

There isn't very much data on the COVID-19 virus so I linked the COVID-19 group below. I did this so you could explore the questions and comments in that group more easily, if you choose to do so.

I'm in the 1b group which is next but I haven't heard anything about how to get it. I figure 3-4 weeks before I have both doses and then 2 weeks before it is effective. Then I will have my ct scan and also the mri I was supposed to have in December for something on my pancreas. Two years ago, at Christmas, I had to call 911 and was in the icu for 3 days and the hospital for 14 more with what started out as a cold, I am more afraid of the virus than anything else, including the vaccine. Can't wait to get it.

rits I feel the same way after a similar experience. The E M T s worked on me for a half hour trying to reduce my heart rate with medication before they even took off for the hospital. My fever from pneumonia was 104 which caused my heart to race to an unbelievable rate and they just couldn’t seem to regulate it. I was in the icu for a couple days f days then sent to a special floor

Mayo Clinic (in Florida) is treating my Bronchiectasis, and they contacted me yesterday. They said, based on a clinical assessment, they wanted me to make an appointment to receive the Covid vaccine from them. I now have an appointment for Saturday, and I'm grateful for it.

I have bronchiectasis and 3 autoimmune conditions. And I'm with you. I'm tired of being a prisoner in my own home with an 18% positivity rate for covid in our area and poor control of masking- northwest Indiana. Waiting & waiting for information because I surely would love to know when and where we can receive this because they can't put this in my arm soon enough. I have survived several bouts of pneumonia, a severe reaction to block drugs administered at surgery last year and have autoimmune conditions. But still, I would get this vaccine without hesitation. I need my life back.

Same here. Not totally comfortable with it yet. Self self isolation is working for me.

For those who aren't sure, remember that they have been working on the mRNA vaccine for 30 YEARS. They started the research in 1989 for it so it's not like they just came up with it all of a sudden. The reason it was produced fast was because the government sped things up by funding the process and hundreds of scientists dropped what they were doing and focused on it. My closest friend who is a doctor on the front lines with COVID in hospitals said she also wanted another year or so to see if there were any problems but realizes now that the risk of getting it FAR outweighs worrying about this vaccine. So she got it and is doing fine. A surgeon in her hospital got COVID a few weeks ago and two OR nurses so it was getting very scary there. Just my two cents. I'm getting it for sure. Nan
