@0616

I sometimes can fall asleep as soon as I go to bed. However, either disturbing dreams or having to use the bathroom do wake me. From then on I am awake for the rest of the night. During the day I find I have no energy even for the one hobby I love best which is gardening.

I have trouble sleeping as my mind doesn't seem to turn off. I did notice that when I took higher doses of Melatonin I would get vivid nightmares. Now take 3 mg which works better. Another is spray my pillows and sheets lightly with lavender mist which seems to help.

Thanks for sharing your regimens for sleeping better. I will try them.

@0616 Just checking to see if you had better sleep. I'm a very lite sleeper and wondered if you found anything helpful.

A tincture of THC/CBD taken under the tongue at bedtime quiets my mind and provides restful sleep with minimal hangover the following day. Stay away from the Benzos, they are terrible.

One thing that has helped with snoring is to put a postage size piece of medical tape over your lips when you sleep. I read about this in the book Breath and it is working for us. Our snoring has reduced and we are having less wakefullness with sleep. It took about 7-10 days to adjust, but it works. Don't cover your entire mouth/lips, just a vertical piece of medical tape below nose to chin.

I've always been a light sleeper. I never thought anything of getting up and going back to bed. As a mother it was natural to get up with the children even at night. Older I started snoring. It was brought to my attention when on a women's conference when I woke up and everyone had removed their bedding mattresses and all and gone to sleep in the great room of the lodge. The humiliation grew as I stood in the breakfast line and heard the discussion of the horrendous noises during the night. Twenty years later I got a BiPap and a diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea.
With anxiety undiagnosed PTSD I allowed myself to be medicated for another twenty plus years. I found Cognitive Behavioral therapy after recognising meds just were a crutch to me and became aware of myself. Recently I've tried in succession 10mg melatonin. Naterol same plus b6 and calcium now Sleep 3 10 mg melatonin and lots of herbs. I sleep more get up less but still don't feel rested. When I had a followup to my neck spasm the Dr ran many tests. My numbers are all good. My diagnosis is unremitting stress over personal issues which I' m shouldering on my own has been ongoing for almost three years. The physical side of the stress is going to take some more time but not as long as the decades that created it. I miss Qi Gong but practise mindfulness to get to sleep. I was reluctant to express myself becase I feared getting prayers goidcwishes and insipid remarks. I decided to come clean my motivation is to vent and nothing more.

@lolaemma Thsnk you for replying here! Sleep and the battle to get quality sleep has so many causes, as you have pointed out. I snore also; my husband told me once we don't have to worry about bears because I scare them off! I liked reading the different things you have tried, because it may help someone to try a new remedy.

Are the personal issues something that you can find support for here on the pages of Mayo Connect? Will journaling help at all? I recently started a discussion on it and over the years have found writing to be therapeutic for me in several times of stress.
