Icy feet and ankles with Small Fiber Neuropathy....anyone?

Hello neuropathy friends. I am looking for information that talks about ice in your feet and ankles from Small Fiber Polyneuropathy. Recently, my feet feel like they have been hanging over the edge of a chair in a bucket of ice. No pain, unless you think freezing feet is painful. Just mysterious. I have had hot and painful but not cold and freezing. Toes still have the tingles and bottoms of feet are numb. Just can't get rid of the cold, cold, cold.

May you have peace and ease today.
Chris

Thanks, I'll get one of those packs. My last episode of icy feet was unbearable. Hope it does not get any worse. I put two heating pads around my feet, turned on the electric blanket, took pain pills and it still took two hours before I could fall asleep. Luckily I have only had about 4 of the icy feet so far in the last three weeks only.

@lioness and others, has anyone tried a weighted blanket to help with cold feet when sleeping?

"Weighted blankets are a type of at-home therapy that can provide similar benefits to deep pressure therapy. These blankets have shown positive results for several conditions, including autism, ADHD, and anxiety. They can help calm a restless body, reduce feelings of anxiety, and improve sleep troubles." --- What the Research Says: Do Weighted Blankets Work?: https://www.healthline.com/health/anxiety/do-weighted-blankets-work

@steeldover, Hi there.....I had another episode of ice bricks for feet this morning and decided to review this discussion. You say that the cold feet have continued, at least through June 24. How are they now @steeldover? Do you now have cold hands also? Somehow, the messages from the damaged or less than active nerves are getting confused. I could barely stand the discomfort this morning and am better now. My therapist worked on my legs and feet today and they are better.

Please keep us informed of your ice pack feet and their journey. And especially, share ideas and "tricks" for faking them out of being frigid. We need all the help we can get. It is wonderful to know you are sharing with us.

May you be free and safe from harm.

@artscaping y apologies for the tardy reply, Chris. I was up at Mayo for ten days for numerous appointments with Pain Medicine, Orthopedics, Neurology, Physical Medicind/Rehabilitation, etc. I don't mean to downplay your issues with cold feet, but for me, that's very low on my list of painful issues. I had excellent help from Dr. Pingree in Pain Medicine for issues with back pain and meralgia paresthetica, and had surgery on my right hand. For my cold feet which are worse at night, I wear white cotton sox. When I get out of bed in the morning, I force myself to march in place to get feeling back in my feet. Sorry I can't be more help.

I have cold feet ALL the time- even if 90° out. I believe super water retention during pegnancy caused damage to my very swollen legs & feet and the capillaries with all that extra weight and pressure.
I wear cozy, thick socks to bed no matter how hot out- the only way i can get to sleep. My husband bought me thermal socks that use a battery to create warmth when I have to be out in snow Also add cozy slippers(plus the socks) that both cover my ankles- just short slip ons won't do it. In winter I also layer on the microwavable rice packs and a warm fleece if I am sitting for long cause there is less circulation with inactivity. I feel your pain, all of you suffering from cold feet.

@steeldove......good afternoon. Thanks for your reply. No apologies needed. I understand that cold feet in no way compares to 24 hours a day of pain. It is just a bit bizarre. When it comes, I can visualize the ice forming and even melting. No worries.....I can handle this. Let's be happy for your improvement at Mayo. Congratulations. It sounds like you have worked very hard to keep your body under control.
May you have happiness and the causes of happiness.

Hi Chris @artscaping . I join the cold feet club! Often a normal cold but then there is the burning cold. I have no numbness and can sense temperature differences but, go through frozen feet Syndrome (as I call it). Winter is brutal...sherpa lined slippers/boots (bigger size) over loose fuzzy socks. But, when my feet hurt and have pressure and cant be confined I use my microwave heat pack to bring them back. My heat pack is the best, cheapest investment. That and self massage to get those nerves functioning. Have you tried warming massage oils or creams? It happens to me in the summer as well and my feet still turn purple (but not as often as last year). 👍🏻 Hope this helps your little piggies. Be well- Rachel

Rachel this is her response to an old post of yours. My feet were chilly this summer but with winter they are freezing. Are use Rockdove slippers in the house but because I have plantar fasciitis they don’t give me enough support. Even putting in an insole doesn’t give me enough so I have to wear my elevated arch athletic shoes which make my feet cold. I try to walk for exercise but the cold pavement is almost more than I can bare. You mentioned Sherpa lined boots. Any particular brand that worked well for you? I appreciate any input as it’s getting cold here in Colorado. Literally, Bcool

Hi @johnbishop, thanks for your wonderments about the ability to differentiate between cold or hot.

I do agree with the author that it is probably a neurologic problem. However, it appears that he says that if you get a diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy sooner, it is more likely that it can be treated. Hmmmmm???????

Just saw your post from 2020. I have only been diagnosed with PN by my GP. Started out last summer with hot feet but now they are just COLD all the time. I use fuzzy slippers and a heating pad when I’m at home but I have to get out or I’ll lose my mind! If I see a neurologist what kind of treatment might they suggest? I take gabapentin but only in the evening because it makes me too fuzzy if I take it in the morning. Also I saw somewhere on Connect about exercises to improve circulation. Can you send those to me?
Thanks for your help, chilly here in Colorado, Bcool

Check out Merrell Jungle Moc. Supportive beyond and extremely worn. It is all I wear winter time. I have two pairs one for indoor and one for outdoors.

Kelsey, thanks for your post. The Merrills shoes look very supportive and they have some kind of reflective insole that reflects your foot heat back! I just hope they’re wide enough I ordered them so we’ll see thanks, bcool
