Do your doctors think that the problems with breathing and coughing are due to thyroid nodules, @kcg? Have the tests determined the size of the nodules?

They said the nodule is small, yes they think my coughing and breathing is due to it, my hair has also thinned, I think there is more to this then they are saying
@kcg Hi, welcome to Connect. Are thyroid nodules related to having hypo or hyperthyroidism? I do have hypothyroidism but do not have any nodules as far as I know. Try to not worry that there is more to this than they are telling you. In my experience, doctors do tell the possibilities, good and bad. I hope with your continued monitoring they are able to do something to help so that your symptoms will be alleviated.
I hope you will be comfortable sharing what the specialist says.

Yes, I had nodules on my thyroid they found when doing an ultrasound on my carotid artery. They sent me to a surgeon who said I they were cancer and I had the thyroid removed right away, damaging my vocal chord in the process, which is a common problem. They put me through a series of tests a year later and said I was cancer free, but the endocrinologist said I must stay on low thyroid to prevent possible cancer. Years before, I had radiation after breast cancer lumpectomy and I blame that for the nodules, because they used no protection on my neck area for the radiation treatments. But they are never going to admit that possibility. I drag around in life and would like a higher dose of Synthroid which I took for a while, but they say my numbers are perfect now. They blame my low energy on diabetes which I admit is part of the problem. I am doing pretty well, but don't last long when I walk or do chores. That's life. Dorisena

May I ask you a question ? my thyroid is being removed ,, ( but not due to the nodule), but due to Graves. i am pre-diabetic, did you or do you have an issue with wt control without your thyroid? I lost 40 lbs with my Graves disease last year... was wondering if I will get it all back again? thanks..t

Nobody ever mentioned Graves to me, so I know nothing about it. If I had lost 40 pounds when I had prediabetes, I would not have had any signs of prediabetes anymore. As it is, I lost 20 pounds when I first had prediabetes and kept it at nigh normal for a few years until it bumped up a little the last couple of years. No, having no thyroid doesn't seem to affect my weight, just eating and not exercising makes the difference. Not having stress in my life makes a huge difference in eating. I never connected thyroid problems and diabetes. I will study more. Dorisena

I don't really think there actually IS a connection with pre diabetes and thyroid....I"m headed to Mayo on Tue .. will find out! AS far as Graves,,, I'm hyper with my thyroid.. had nothing to do with the nodule as far as I know.
Hello @kcg and welcome to Mayo Connect.
I have thyroid modules as well. My thyroid blood levels and an ultrasound are done annually.
Are you being followed up in a similar way?
I’m going to see a specialist and they will monitor it every 6 months, it’s affecting my breathing and I’m coughing

yes. I have a nodule. It has remained unchanged for 3 years.. surgery is not recommended for THAT at this time.
