Fibromyalgia Medication and treatment

Posted by Sundance(RB) @sundance6, Jun 1, 2019

I have been on the Mayo Connect for over six months. My symptoms point to the umbrella of things, Lyme disease, West Nile, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, and Chronice Fatigue. I have seen every doctor in my hospital system. Had every test and scans done. JUST MADE MORE $$ FOR THE HOSPITAL SYSTEM!

Yesterday I finally went to a Rheumatologist for a consultation on a blood test. When I expalined what I had been going through the last ten months he finally gave me a diagnoses. (First one after 10 months and 10 doctors.)There is a small chance I may have Lyme Disease, but to late to tell. He said he was sure it is Fibromyalgia. He said I should have been directed to him when it first started. (Again as many of you agree they put you through unecessay test and perscribe pills to make $$ for the industry.

So now that I finally have some direction to move, I need some advice, information, what helps, what causes it and such. He said he feels mine is in the area of sleep. Does this make sense to anyone? He is sending me to a sleep clinic for evaluation.

I know I have seen many postings about Fibromyalgia, but I guess it is the "Fibro Fog" that dosen't remember all.

I had been on Gabretentian but the side effects were worse than my pain! We are tryng Cymbalta. Can anyone let me know how it has worked for them. Anything to watch for?
As always this site is the Best! People are so honest and open about helping.
Thanks,
Sundance 🙂

@sundance6 I love your positivity! Good for you to get started on yoga, and take steps to get back to the river. We look forward to your fishing tales.

Well I made it through my first Yoga class yesterday! It was very interesting! It was a Silver Sneakers class at the YMCA so we were all over the age of 60. What was interesting was we did it on chairs. Which most of you already knew!
It's going to take a few times to learn how to breath properly when doing the excercises. Felt good when I was done. Then this AM I woke and got out of bed. I was sore in many parts of my body. Shows where my body has gone since all this happened. And it shows where I need to go.
My instructor was very nice and very concerned about me. I had introduced myself before the class and let her know what I had gone through this last year. Super person!
Anyway we meet two days a week. Looking forward to tomorrow, Thursday.
I would highly recomend any of you explore your Silver Sneakers in your area. Also the YMCA. I know it helps get you out of our comfort zone and is a benifit to all of us.
I'm assuming many of you are just like me! Even though I have been in business for over 50 years and traveled the country and the world, it took me to dig deep and go down and sign up. Then because I posted I was going to start the yoga class on this thread that I had commited myself to do it.
Again, that is what is so Special about Mayo Connect! We all are so honest and open with each other it is a Special Relationship that you don't want to let the Group(Team) down.
Thanks to all of you for the support you give to all of us.

Thanks! Great to hear! It is something new to me! You are a stronger willed person than I! If I did it at home I woulld find some excuse not to do it. I did recieve a thread today about a lady in Northern Cal. who has cured/helped herself by doing Laughter Yoga!
Very interesting! The late Basketball Coach Jimmy Valvono said everyday we need to Laugh, Cry, and think.
How true!

@sundance6 I once went to a class it was laughter for your health. It didn't catch on but laughter is good for your health even just laugh at yourself. haha After our exercise class I tell jokes so we all laugh. It tickles the inside .

I don't know if aany of you have read the story of Katie Ledecky Our World Class Lady Swimmer. It was a Big Surprise when she was bested in her #1 event. They said she just Ran out of Gas!
In our papaer the story appeared as to what was going on with her. She was complaining or Headaches, Irregular heart beat, lightheadness. and difficult sleeping! She compalined also about extreme fatigue.
Doctors can't explain it. (Does that sound Farmiliar!)
Sounds like Fibromyalgia to me! When is our medical industry going to open their eyes to Fibromyalgia? It truly affects more people that is known.
SAD!

I was looking for this site because I am starting to think I am just lazy. I am 69 yrs old, been diagnosed for 13 years, have a great GP Dr who is very observant and takes good care of me. I am just so tired I cannot get anything done most days then all of a sudden I am a speed demon going thru the house. I do hurt in every inch of my body, and I have other things I cannot spell. I take Gabapentin, Effexor, Hydrocodine for my Fibro all of which I tolerate very well. This is after 13 years of trying all sorts of meds. this is what we settled on. The lazy thing is so foreign to me. I raised 3 boys, worked full time, had 2 elderly parents and you could eat off my floors. It was just my beautiful life back then. Now I am by myself and no one sees the dishes, floor. Just too high of bar I have set for myself.

Hi @freedom05 I’m so happy you reached out and found Mayo Clinic Connect in your search. In this community based forum, we’re not medical professionals so we can’t diagnose health problems or prescribe treatments. We’re members just like you who share personal experiences and insights to help find answers, give suggestions and offer encouragement.

What you’re going through is so disheartening. I’m very sorry. You sound like such a lovely woman and sure don’t deserve what life has dished out on your plate. I can tell you’re not a lazy person so please don’t chastise yourself for something beyond your control. Fibromyalgia is real and it can be debilitating. I don’t have it myself, but I do have a dear friend whose life is severely impacted. It’s terrible to feel so awful and so tired day after day!

We have several discussions on Fibromyalgia in the Chronic Pain Group. I’d like to introduce you to @parus and @rwinney, two of our members who have Fibro and might be able to guide you from first hand experience.
