Feeling very sick, is it Fibromyalgia flare or something else?

Posted by 247pain @247pain, Mar 10 11:08am

Sunday morning I woke up in the middle of the night and my legs hurt extremely bad. It wasn’t muscle pain it was more of a deep pain, like bone pain. I had prickly sensations and pins and needles feelings in the bottom of my feet. I felt horrible! I suffer from Fibro but it hasn’t really bothered me lately. I also have daily persistent headaches and chronic migraines. So then Sunday night I started vomiting thankfully that stopped. My legs still hurt so bad, all of my joints hurt, I’m nauseous, can’t eat and I just feel awful! I haven’t been running a fever. I’m not sure if it’s just a really bad Fibro flare or if I have a virus? My joints have been hurting for months and I’ve told my doctor but she doesn’t do anything. I’m already on Lyrica for the Fibro. Could this be the start of Rheumatoid Arthritis, but what would cause this horrible leg pain? And walking around makes the pain worse. I’m kinda waiting it out, hopefully it goes away soon, I feel the doctors wouldn’t be much help. Thanks for listening

Mayo's Pain and Rehabilitation Program can help.

The leg situation could also be restless leg syndrome, Neuropathy or Central Sensitization. Others I am unfamiliar with.

Are you still having that pain? It could be a DVT. If it’s still hurting you may need to go to a hospital and get a ultrasound. I’ve had several DVTs. And ended up with a double pulmonary embolism. I know have a filter to catch any clot coming from my lower body. Best of luck hope your already feeling better

It’s definitely not restless legs, I have that and that’s not what’s happening. Thank you for your suggestions

It’s feeling a little better today, thankfully! I never thought of blood clots as a possible problem, I’ll have to remember that. That’s what you’re talking about correct? Thank you so much for your help, best wishes to you.

@247pain You have gotten a couple of possibilities here, and that is always good. What does your rheumatologist say? Have you kept any kind of a written journal, noting time of day/weather/activity when this happens?
I also have fibro, along with a few other issues. Sometimes a simple change in barometric pressure as weather systems change will do me in. Sometimes I feel pretty good and push myself, then pay the price the next few days. Sometimes eating the wrong-for-me foods will do it. It is definitely true that each person is different.
Are you near a teaching hospital of Mayo Clinic campus, where you can get a more thorough evaluation?

I don’t see a Rheumatologist, they don’t think I have to. I don’t keep a journal on Fibro just with my migraines I do. I do notice certain things set it off. But this pain is different than Fibro pain, it’s hard to explain. I’m already being seen at a Mayo campus 😄 might go elsewhere

@247pain I would certainly ask your Mayo dr about a workup from rheumatology. From what I have read from others, giving Mayo a list of your symptoms ans asking for a "full body system check" may just be the ticket you need to get an answer.

@247pain I hope you have gotten some results at present but if you haven't go to another Dr to have them do a work up as @gingerw said There is something causing this leg pain and the vomiting you had and I have never had this with my fibromyalgia even when I had a flare up . Let us hear from you we are all concerned about you

Thank you that’s very kind! I haven’t gotten any answers yet. I see my doctor in 2 weeks so hopefully I’ll find out something then. The leg pain is only getting worse, I’m pretty much either stuck in bed or on the couch. Any activity makes it worse.

@247pain I know you are counting down the days until you see the doctor. I have leg pain which I attribute to fibromyalgia. Keeping you in my thoughts.
