@lynnwade54 - I am impressed with the sound of your physical therapist AND your surgeon. It must be a real relief to have the OS himself seek out a 2nd opinion vs. trying to figure out own your own whether it is time. I am hoping it is not infection. I know you can't wait for the lab results. Is there anything that makes you feel like it might be inflammation - heat around the area, tenderness, etc?

1 ReactionI’m one week out of left TKR and I too am having horrible burning on my operative leg at the shin. Pain meds help.. but I’m trying to cut down on them. Is this normal? What causes it? It happened after PT today

1 Reaction@lk3xs Were both TKRs the same brand/model of knee? I am thinking possible allergy.

I had the same sensation, same place. Doctor put me on Gapapentin, twice a day. Got better, went off of it, then had a MUA two weeks ago. Started again, back on gabapentin. It really helped

1 ReactionGabapentin a great drug. I was put on it for shingles. BUT!! What my dermatologist, internist and orthopedic doctor (because he said stay on them because it was helping my knee pain) didnt tell me you need to taper off. They cause SEVERE WITHDRAWAL symptoms. No one told me you had to taper off. I had just ran out and immediately went into migraines and shakes. Took me over 4 months to get off. Awful experience. Beware
I had my first knee replacement September 12 and my second one November 7. I have been on narcotics since June , am anxious to get off of them. The last two or three days my second knee replacement the skin around the area sometimes feels like it’s on fire it, it will last 1 to 2 hours and then it goes away. It comes back it’s surprising moments out of the blue. Today I went to the store and halfway through I felt like my pants were rubbing on it but they weren’t. I had my hips replaced 16 years ago my shower to replace this past January 5 years ago my desk collapse in my back and I have a basket at three for level. But I’ve never had burning around the skin before. Another new experience.
I definitely have more pain in my second TKR, but because I’ve been on narcotics so long I think they’re not working very well. The doctors are trying to figure out how to help me because I’m usually at six to eat even on three different narcotics. Arrange a motion is good at I definitely have more pain in my second TKR, but because I’ve been on narcotics so long I think they’re not working very well. The doctors are trying to figure out how to help me because I’m usually at six to eat even on three different narcotics. Arrange motion is good at 120, Can walk without the cane around the house. I’m just so tired of being in so much pain. I guess this too shall pass, I just need to be patient but I’m not very good with that.
I am only 1 month out from my Right TKR. My doctor and physical therapists acted like he had never heard of anyone experiencing burning with a TKR before. It's been keeping me awake at night, the burning runs the length of my incision from the bottom to just above the knee cap. I did have a burning pain on the inside of the right knee but the therapist said to massage it gently in an upwards motion. I am trying gentle massage on the incision. Some gentle pressure with the palm of my hand. But in a few minutes, it starts again, so I am awake at 4AM.
