Have you been back to your surgeon or care team to discuss your symptoms and possible treatments or therapy?
I go back every few months and I’ve had both knees replaced. It’s only my R knee that burns usually in the morning or during the night…

Hello @helaineyancey and sorry to hear about the burning in your right knee. I wonder if you have checked to see if a virtual appointment is an option for you to check back in with your care team to give them an update and see if they have additional recommendations. So many providers have this option now. Do you know if this is something that is offered?

I had a TKR last November, and after one year the burning went away. Ice and Voltaren Gel helped with the burning. I still have numbness on the outside of my knee and swelling. My Therapist says the swelling may not ever go completely away. I will schedule a visit with the surgeon this month to discuss. I am also considering acupuncture. The ligaments supporting my knee were stretched out, so would not stabilize the artificial knee, so I also have intramedullary rods. You just never know how it will turn out. I am glad I had only one knee done.
Well 3 years. Tried all types of pills and rubs. Results erratic. Makes you uncomfortable about trusting the knee. Met a man who had 10 ops in one knee. As with me, taking co-codamol 30mg500 along with Ibuprofen 400 for pain, and muscle relief cream. Helps but still have episodes.
I’m 3 months out and have burning, tingling and stiffness. Have you gotten any suggestions?
I used the Voltaren cream did not help so much so I found Blue EMU from Walmart, Walgreens or Target it helps some.
I’m scheduled to have my left knee replaced after having my right knee done 3 months ago. Wish me the best.
Hello @deniserosado39, Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Sorry to hear you are having burning pain 3 months after your knee replacement. I had minor pain and stiffness in the first few months after my knee replacement. What helped me and what my surgeon and care team constantly encouraged me to do was ice the knee and elevate the leg frequently during the day. I was doing it after exercising the knee and leg but not doing it enough the rest of the day. I'm glad you found something that helps some with the pain.
I had my right knee done but my left knee is still pretty good although I do have degenerative arthritis in the knee but don't have any pain with it. Good luck on your upcoming left knee replacement, hoping it goes smoother and with less or no pain. How soon are you scheduled to have your left knee replacement done?
