Dialated Cardiomyopathy with decreased EF rate
I had mitrol valve replacement in 2014. I was recently diagnosed with dialated cardiomyopathy. I’m getting a muga scan end of Jan 2019 to get a better read on my EF rate cause it’s right on the cusp of heart failure. I’m trying to find more info on this diagnosis. Supposedly, life span has increased from 2 to 5 years to possibly 7 or more years. I have a pacemaker but expect to get a defibrillator put in to help avoid possible sudden death. The muga scan will determine my need for this. Any one have any current information on this diagnosis.

Hi @camaroyo, I moved your message to the Heart & Blood Health group to connect you with others who have similar issues with mitral valve replacement, ejection fraction and dialated cardiomyopathy, like @jillybeans22 @tiredofbeingsick @predictable @hopeful33250 and @murryone.
Did you see this video with Dr Timimi about heart failure with preserved ejection fraction? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/confused-about-stiff-heart-diastolic-heart-failure-or-hfpef/
Camaroyo, what is your EF rate?
Appears to be 35%. Muga scan should help define that
With an EF rate of 35% I can understand your concern, @camaroyo. For those on Connect who might not be familiar with a MUGA Scan, here is some information about this procedure, https://www.mayoclinic.org/departments-centers/overview/ovc-20442550.
When will you be having the MUGA scan?
Great. I was wondering.bive never heard of that. I have a defibrillator, heart failure. I've had nuclear testing and r heart Cath. Good info
@suscros68 How was your heart catheterization? For me that's where they found my blockages in my heart arteries that led to my by pass
I've had several of them now.vthey check for how my heart failure is doing . The procedure is always scary for me. They don't put me to sleep just stick a giant needle in neck and guide wire to heart. Doctors make it sound like it's no big deal. Bet they've never had one.
@suscros68 Mine was in my groin they threaded it up into my heart since I'm retired nurse I watched it on the monitor ,did you?
No because it was in neck and had my head draped .
@suscros68 Oh sorry it was so interesting lol
30 Jan is my Muga scan. Anxious to see what it shows, but I am expecting a defibrillator to b needed w/ my pacemaker. Praying that works if needed because the next step is very scary.
