Ongoing Chest Pain

Posted by kttormoen @kttormoen, Oct 17, 2018

A week ago, I woke up at night from chest pain. It was pretty intense and I thought it was heartburn. I took Tums, which always help, but they didn't help. The next day I went to my doctor. She did an EKG and it was normal. She prescribed Omeprazole for GERD. Even after days of taking it, I do not feel better. My chest pain is constant. It's minor but it moves around. For example, it is in the middle of my chest right now but has been on the left side and then the right side today as well. My cholesterol is normal, I am a 28 year old female, I am not overweight, and there is not history of heart issues in my family.

Sometimes I feel like my heart is fluttering. I've also been very tired and a bit dizzy. I am not sure if part of the cause of my symptoms is anxiety, but anxiety attacks don't typically last for days on end. I have a hard time focusing on anything lately because of my symptoms. I feel shaky too.

Please help me. I am not sure what is going on and I feel like my doctor doesn't think it's a big deal.

I have been feeling chest pain where id imagine my heart is for the past month and a half. It is completely random and doesnt get worse nor better. Its mild and usually when im doing interesting stuff i just foeget about it. Its come and go, doesnt have a specific shedule. Im 16 and pretty fit. Im pretty active and almost never when i excersise i feel the pain. It never gets so severe its unbearable. Its just there, i could live with it if i knew it was nothing dangerous. I cant see what the reason for this is. Ive been googling all kinds of problems and the only one that kinda goes with my sympthoms is the inflammation of my ribcage. But would that really go on for months? Ive had a visit to the doc for something not connected with the pain, she listened to my heart and said everything is fine. I just want to know what this is, and should i just wait it out or go

Hi @niksonrex and welcome to Connect! You may have noticed I moved your thread to this thread discussing ongoing chest pain.
That must be confusing that the chest pain comes and goes and doesn't occur when you exercise.
It is always a good idea to ask your doctor about chest pain.
@lioness @racerjon and @loved1 may be able to help you figure out what it could be.
Can you describe the pain? Does it occur when you do anything specific?

No, that is the wierdest part. It doesnt happen when i do anything specific. The pain feels ,rarely stabbing, and usually feels dull. Like when someone grips a part of your body real hard. I think its right under my third rib, and right where it starts. Cant say if it is the rib or behind it.

The only thing i noticed yesterday is that, when i really make myself upright (i usually dont stand very upright cause i am sitting alot, im working on that) it eases off. It might have been a coinsidence but im not sure cause i also dont ever feel it if im lying down or when practicing HEMA where i gotta stand upright.
Also never felt it 2-3 hours after waking up. Might be that i dont notice it but that is what i felt. And again its not unbearable. I can easly just forget about it when im doing something.

And thanks for moving it here, im new here so i dont really know the layout well xD.

Hi @niksonrex,

You may wish to view this Mayo Clinic Q and A:

I'm also tagging @kromp @lisab62 @jeny4 @scotr124m @rsmith011 @cherfenn @iagrrl who've written about similar concerns, and I’m certain they will join in with their thoughts.

@niksonrex, sometimes digestive issues like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), can also cause a feeling of tightness under the breastbone (sternum), which may resemble chest pain; would you consider asking your doctor about this? Are you still experiencing pain?

Hi @ramirezdanny and welcome to Connect. You may have noticed I moved your post it this existing discussion on chest pain with normal tests. Click VIEW & REPLY in your email and you will be able to read what others have gone through and find some ideas as to the cause of your pain.

It must be worrisome and frightening to have this pain in your chest and have no cause for why it's happening.

I wanted to introduce you to @lioness @racerjon and @loved1 as well as @kromp @lisab62 @jeny4 @scotr124m @rsmith011 @cherfenn and @iagrrl as they may be able to offer you support during your search.

Back to your chest pain @ramirezdanny where in your chest did the pain start? Is the pain in your chest, and now arm and jaw, a dull pain or a sharp pain?

@remerizdanny Welcome to this wonderful group of people with all kinds of problems who can help you with similar condition .Do you have frequent heartburn ? This acts like a heart pain so have you been checked out by a gastroenterologist for stomach issues? Another thing that can cause this pain is a pinched nerve that comes from your back to stomach I had this one time and went to my chiropractor for relief. As soon as he released the nerve my dull ache went away from chest this was my experience ,this is only a suggestion but maybe worthwhile looking into.Hope you get some relief.

Im hoping that someone here has some advice or insight. Im 35, male, in good shape. I have been having daily chest pain for a couple months now. I'll use today as an example. All day I felt perfectly fine. Woke up early, got the kid off to school, and worked out. Rode the stationary bike for 60 minutes. Heart and chest felt fine for the entire time. Rest of the day went fine. Until around 1430. Sitting in a meeting I feel my heart flutter/skip a beat, and feel a tingle throughout my entire body. The feeling is extremely uncomfortable and unsettling. Along with a short spell of dizziness, I immediately have anxiety. 10 minutes later I continue to have chest burning/discomfort that continues on to my back, and headache. 10 minutes after that it starts to settle, but even 90 minutes later I still have chest and back discomfort and random palpitations (that I attribute to anxiety from the initial episode). This will probably last the rest of the day, or at least until I work out again. Thats the weirdest part to both me and my cardiologist. When my HR is elevated and I am working out, I feel fantastic. The majority of the time when I feel these cardiac episodes (all of the times I can think of), I am at rest. Pain and discomfort will radiate to my back, arms, neck, and jaw. Dizzy and lightheaded. A few months ago I went to the ER with one of these episodes. EKG was fine, troponin test was negative. ER doc said to follow up with primary. Primary performed another EKG that also came back normal. Referred to cardiologist, who ran multiple tests. Bloodwork showed nothing, Holter monitor showed some pvcs or pacs but nothing significant. Echo and stress test also didn't show anything significant. I can't seem to figure out what is going on, but I'm pretty sure is not gastro. Multiple antacids have offered no relief. I can physically feel my heart having these episodes when they happen. I don't know what to do, but the associated anxiety is horrible. I can't even go to sleep, because I am convinced that my heart is going to stop while I am asleep.

Also, I have daily headaches that can come with the episodes, or present on their own.

@jdad0602 I'm sorry you are having these symptoms .You said you do 60 minutes a day is that everyday? Have you told your cardiologist about this It might be to much My understanding is 30 min a day then every other day ,you need to let your muscles rest a day. I new a lady runner every day 5-10 miles she blew her knee out the Dr told her If you haven't tell your Dr about how much you exercise and length of time
