Ongoing Chest Pain

Posted by kttormoen @kttormoen, Oct 17, 2018

A week ago, I woke up at night from chest pain. It was pretty intense and I thought it was heartburn. I took Tums, which always help, but they didn’t help. The next day I went to my doctor. She did an EKG and it was normal. She prescribed Omeprazole for GERD. Even after days of taking it, I do not feel better. My chest pain is constant. It’s minor but it moves around. For example, it is in the middle of my chest right now but has been on the left side and then the right side today as well. My cholesterol is normal, I am a 28 year old female, I am not overweight, and there is not history of heart issues in my family.

Sometimes I feel like my heart is fluttering. I’ve also been very tired and a bit dizzy. I am not sure if part of the cause of my symptoms is anxiety, but anxiety attacks don’t typically last for days on end. I have a hard time focusing on anything lately because of my symptoms. I feel shaky too.

Please help me. I am not sure what is going on and I feel like my doctor doesn’t think it’s a big deal.

@trenee1973

I have the EXACT issues that you are having. I feel so good after doing 30 minutes on the elliptical and some toning stuff. My chest tightens as the day goes on and I thought maybe it was my underwire. I’ll just be sitting on the couch and my heart flutters to where I have to cough. It’s like it takes my breath away. My chest is constantly tight for 2 months now. It all started with these pains that felt like someone was poking me with a poker under my left breast. Pain sometimes radiates throughout my body. I get headaches. Numbness and tingling in my left arm and sometimes my legs. Dizziness. I have gone to the doctor and of course he prescribed anxiety meds and told me to go to a “Behavioral Therapist”. My bloodwork Great, my heart function great. My resting rate is around 62. I went and got a mammogram, per doctor request, fine. I am going for a heart monitor next month. Yep, takes that long. I honestly feel like it’s a blocked artery but my doctor doesn’’t Want to do the tests. He said that if I feel that bad to go to the emergency room and they will automatically run all the tests. I am so frustrated!

trenee, did anything end up helping you? I am still having these issues, and am wondering if you've found anything to help you. My anxiety and insomnia is only relieved by massive fatigue that makes me sleep. Im convinced I will die in my sleep.

a big bright blue spot on it it hurts. Im so dizzy have a headache and feel nauseous. Im so tired I have the heart monitor on till June 28th. My primary doctor said from my ekg 2 weeks ago that it could be a blockage and circled it on the paper. She then said we just need to wait till the 10th for your stress test. Im not gonna make it through that ugh…..They did not give me anything to lower blood pressure. They also did not give me beta blockers. I have fluid in left lung. They gave me antibiotics and said you have bronchitis. That was last friday. Im miserable made it through bartending today. Now at home hurting

Ya my left breast has been hurting now as well. Anything I do I'm out of breath. I then finally see a cardiologist on the 12th. Its been hell just wait oh wait. Just relax take asprin. Its just an anxiety attack….I'm like excuse me!! I had chronic pain for 5 years and didn't take anxiety meds and went to counseling. It ended up being endo in my uterus. I dont have that or my cervix/tubes. If you feel bad you should go in Im rhinking I should I don't think I can make it till Monday.

The not knowing is miserable. I've been to the ER multiple times, and every time they tell me there is nothing wrong and I need to follow up with cardio. Again, they can't find anything and tell me nothing is wrong. Ive been put on anxiety medicine, and if I take it, I get more anxiety that it is going to hurt my heart. Miserable.

Hi, I have been dealing with chest pain for over a month now. Slowly getting refferals. No one seems to be listening to me. I feel its because of my age 32 and Im a female. I have been in the ER 3 times in the last week and a half. Im now short of breath with anything I do. The chest pain is happening to often. I can't do my usual work day anymore without being exhausted. Im losing hope.

@ashred The heart reacts to how well or poorly the lungs may be working, and the heart beat will increase if the lungs are not efficiently absorbing oxygen. This has happened to me because of excess phlegm that seemed to come from an infection. I went to the ER with a resting heart rate over 100 and they said it was bronchitis. A course of antibiotics fixed it and I was able to get rid of the phlegm from the infection and return to normal. I also have a physical problem in that I have thoracic outlet syndrome that makes one side of my chest too tight, so my left chest doesn't expand as much contributing to the problem. I have had ribs twist and pop out of position from TOS and work with a physical therapist who can resolve this. I have had chest pains when this happens or from extreme stress. That might be food for thought to see if allergies or a possible lung infection may be contributing to the issues of shortness of breath and affecting the heart.

@ashred Taking Mucinex or the generic might help get the fluid out of your lung. You might also want to see a physical therapist because they have ways to help expel mucous. I hope you feel better. I've had re-occurring issues with bronchitis that starts with allergies that create too much phlegm and it moves to an infection. Controlling allergies is my best defense. I have allergic asthma which doesn't help.

I would go straight to emergency. This is not to be taken lightly. You could have a clot in your leg. Go immediately!

Dear Ashred, You pay for health care (one way or another) and you need to take advantage of it. Go to the hospital. You need urgent car. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

And how about seeing a naturopathic doctor.I stress doctor because they have university degrees. Yes, it costs maybe $60 for half an hour consultation but it is money well spent. You and all of us could do with lifestyle changes and supplement advice. At my naturopathic doctor I had a blood test for allergies/intolerances (interesting what it revealed) and a poop test since I have been on many, many round of antibiotics for recurrent UTIs (and just found the cure) and need to set my gut biome to rights; aka immune system since it is 80% in the gut. We have one life to live and we should make the best of it for our own sake and also for our families.

I also have a Naturopathic Doc. I also do Bio feedback as well for stress. My naturopath said you definitely are having heart issues. My biofeedback picked up heart issues.

Hello jdad. I guess this means you are a man… I was going to say that when I hit menopause it happened to be when bio-identical hormones became all the rage. I had to wait 8 months for an appointment to be evaluated and put on them, the interest in it was to great. (Remember Goldie Hawn?…) For women, there's nothing like bio-identical progesterone. It's made from yams. and it is actually cancer protective according to my pharmacist and two gynaecologists. Anyway, you are a man so progesterone cream at bedtime wouldn't work.
The most obvious solution is of course eliminating caffeine…even first thing in the morning. Another issue that causes sleeplessness is an overactive thyroid. Experts say to turn down the lights in the evening, darken the computer screen and make it orange (software) and avoid anything stimulating at bedtime. And then there are side effects from medications. Have you explored these avenues?

So do they believe your pain was a result of bronchitis? Did you have a cold or the flu?
You really shouldn’t ignore chest pain though.
