Adults On The Autism Spectrum

Maybe you were really shy as a child. Perhaps you took home a huge stack of books from the school library, read them, and returned them the next day. Or did your best friend find you crying in your closet, unable to answer the question "Why?" At any rate, your life could be traced to the Self-Help section of the local bookstore. Unfortunately, most of the books were not much help. ADHD seemed to fit, at times. Your shrink said you might be Bi-Polar, although she wasn't really certain. All you knew was that you rarely fit in, anywhere. One day at work, it hit you square in the face: I don't speak these people's language! Really, it was like you were all playing this game, and everyone knew the rules but you. You couldn't tell a joke, and you never "got" any joke your co-worker tried to tell you. People started getting annoyed with you, because you had a memory like a steel trap. They didn't appreciate it when you called them on the carpet. Who knew? This was my life, and worse. I finally aced several tests that pointed me to the answer to my questions. The Autism Spectrum. Guess what? Little kids with Autism grow up to be Adults with Autism. Diagnosed late in life? This is the place for you!

@sirgalahad, I want to drop in today, and say Hi. I hope that you are doing well. I felt the nudge to write to you this week (just now taking the time to do it) because I had coffee with a friend at our local coffee shop. And I was greeted by a former student, who is autistic. We hugged and shared memories, and it was as if time had disappeared for us. He was bigger, and even had a full beard! But he still gave me the biggest and best bear hug ever! - just as he did as a youngster.
Anyway, I thought of you, across the miles. I am smiling as I write this. I hope it brings a smile to your face too.

thankyou Rosemary it has made me smiled just back from seeing the ENT specialist I am now will be having surgery on both ears replacement of ear drums from Cholestoma

@sirgalahad, I read a little about this surgery, I had not heard of it before. I find my own comfort when I am under the care of a skilled doctor. I finally learned to accept that what is new for me, is what the medical specialists have studied and trained for, for years.
I had to look up cholestoma. It sounds rather complicated. I hope that this is successful, and without any complications. When will you have the surgery? Have you looked in the Hearing Loss Group for anyone who has had this done?

@sirgalahad, I read a little about this surgery, I had not heard of it before. I find my own comfort when I am under the care of a skilled doctor. I finally learned to accept that what is new for me, is what the medical specialists have studied and trained for, for years.
I had to look up cholestoma. It sounds rather complicated. I hope that this is successful, and without any complications. When will you have the surgery? Have you looked in the Hearing Loss Group for anyone who has had this done?

when the hospital advises me later this yearbasically replacing the eardrums probably using titanium to replce the hammer stirrup and anvil and removing the skin from theear drum

i have deformed middle ear mastoids very small does not provide sufficient air in front of and behind the ear drum constant sinus infections and eustachian tubes being deformed and not giving enough air to keep ear drums up .they have severely retracted the ear drums and have stuck to the inside wall of the middle ear and need to be released .i have had 17 operations on mt left ear alone .removal of tumour on auditory nerve realignment of tympanic bones drilled out mastoid and ear canal. I get seen by the ear nose and throat clinic at sydney university rpa hospital and teaching hospital for ENT SURGEONS TO BE . TO TRY AND SAVE MY HEARING or whats left of it

@sirgalahad Thank you for this explanation and I'm so sorry for what your going through I sincerely hope this operation helps you to hear fully again .Right now the EENT told me I have nerve damage in my Right ear I went to him for dizziness and balance problems but never thought I had nerve damage .I really wish you well.God bless you
