@jodeej I thought you said somewhere that his MELD was 36. I am not surprised that if it's 30 he has not yet been transplanted, particularly if he happens to be type O. I understand that type can take longer, probably because they can transplant those livers to anyone waiting, whereas type A. B, AB can only go to the same types.

@rosemarya
I forgot the @ on my post

@jerrydrennan, Thanks for the explanation. I know that the waiting and the unknowing are just plain awful, - however, at least you can take some comfort knowing that Mayo has a protocol based on years of experience. I hope that all continues to proceed favorably for you.
Sending prayers.

@rosemarya
Thank you so much for the prayers and thoughts. The people at the Mayo are some of the best people I have meet . Being from south Texas, the mayo has been fantastic on working with me on almost all occasions due to my logistics. Have a beautiful day.

I'm a newbie caregiver. What does it mean to be staged?

@myson
Hello
From what I have been told and read
Staging for me is looking at the area that has cancer ,liver or bile duct. And to make sure that the cancer has not spread to other organs or lympnoids. I hope one of the moderators can send a link to staging. I am not versed on how to add links.
This procedure is done before I can get activated. If the cancer has not spread then I should get activated.
If the cancer has spread then I will be removed from transplant.
I hope this helps I am not the best at this buy I will help where I can. I not up on your story so ,info is free so is prayers.
God bless

@myson, This staging refers to liver patients. Liver transplants are more common than lung trasplants and so you will be reading more about liver than about lung transplant.
If you would like to start a new discussion about lung transplant patients, I will be happy to help you to get one started. Just let me know. Okay?

@jerrydrennan Thanks, Jerry. I am not sure what a lapo procedure is, I googled it and came up with nothing that sounded applicable. I did have a biopsy and had malignant tumors. They were fewer and smaller than what would cause me to be removed as a transplant candidate.
Why would they pass you over if this is something that has to be done? If you are already at MELD 31 it would seem imminent to me. I presume that there is some malignancy which is why this needs to be done. Has that been dealt with? I had an ablation. Because my lesions were right at the edge of my liver it was a difficult ablation, they did not want to effect any other organs. As a result there was a tiny bit left when they took my liver out and dissected it so now I am on a watch to make sure it has not metastasized. Hopefully it has not, so far, so good.

@lisamb That's wonderful, you and your husband must be so relieved. Initially he may be in some discomfort/pain but it will pass and then he and you can move forward with smooth sailing. It's such a great time when you can put the waiting and the problems behind you.
JK

@gayleaf1 I must have said something misleading, my transplant was on September 23, 2016 and things are great now, but thank you for your well wishes.

Hello
I wish I had very solid reason. Depending on who I ask the answers are different. I Dr told me the MELD does not matter and it would be a year or so before they get to me. Another Dr told me I would be transplanted by July. I am not been staged. The best answer I got was there are to many people activated and I need to wait. Then I was told Friday that they have done a lot of transplants the past couple of weeks. I will wait my turn and when it happens it happens. I’m just wanting to know what road I’m taking.
God bless
