Other causes of failed PEth test for alcohol abuse?

Thanks to what I’m learning here and able to advise others, and from what they read here...

Just watched real time where a THIRD person has a pos dried blood spot test of 59 on Friday, and a negative meaning less than 20 whole blood peth on Monday...

It appears as though Delta airlines has quit using dried blood spot peth tests... waiting for confirmation. If anyone knows of other organizations that have discontinued DBS peth, that would be useful.

It’s all bad, but possibly a step in the right direction.

Outcomes vary still. What you’re really fighting is a paradigm predicated on lack of self confidence that then places responsibility for determining if you ever drank on a lifeless blameless test.

The test has problems. We still don’t know precisely what they are. Collecting details here is starting to reveal patterns. Would like to know minute details of your situation before introducing bias.

Help!! I am losing custody of my two kids because I have failed two PETH tests. I have not had anything to drink for 8 weeks. My first test results were at 23ng with the cutoff at 20ng. The moment I got my result I realized it was wrong and went somewhere else and tested again. My second test came back positive at an even higher level of 40ng. How is that even possible? Both tests went to USDTL for testing. Something is seriously wrong with this test. It is going to effect me greatly with my kids and I’ve done nothing wrong. How many other people out there has this effected? How many more before action is taken? I never had a drinking problem and this is all from a claim from my ex wife. I’ve spent $24,000 battling her in court. I don’t have anything left to defend myself anymore and who gets hurt from this the most? My kids! I was the stay at home parent for them and now I can’t see them unless it’s supervised. All because of the PETH test. The court wants me to test negative but how is that possible when I’m testing positive with no alcohol. One more negative test and themJudge won’t even hear my case for over a year. This is wrong! Our system is broken! Does anyone know of anyone or group working on a lawsuit with this test at all? I am out of options since now I’m broke and one more negative test and I’ll lose my kids for over a year. I ask all that who read this to be aware! This can happen to anyone! This test is beyond a joke and the medical field should be embarrassed that this continues.

I would start with reading the posts from toolsd, myself, and fairlane. Will give you a pretty good idea of how bad this test is.

When you took the second test was it also with USDTL? If you read my other posts you will see why you really should be taking another test with Labcorp as the backend. Without a second test to dispute USDTL you are going to have problems. Even with it, you will likely still have problems. Especially if you have anything against you other than these tests. The court is pre-disposed to treat you as a liar. They believe these tests no matter how bad they are.

Toolsd and I have a lot of data showing the tests are questionable. I wish we had more same day tests with conflicting results. We have conflicts same day at USDTL different testing facilities and same day conflicts with USDTL and Labcorp and other sources. But I will warn you unless you have a lot of cash to fight good luck getting a court to pay attention to you (at least that was my wife’s experience). You are unfortunately a new member of the USDTL victims club. If you want to PM me an email or phone number I might be able to make some suggestions (especially if your problems are in DFW). I suspect toolsd will reach out as well.

I really want to hear more about autoimmune disorders and PETH. I have been sick with something most of my life, and no docs seems to care enough to pursue it (like it is all in my head). Then I had ALF (acute sudden liver failure) with no diagnosis as to what happened... my liver just died. So now I have even worse autoimmune responses, sore throat, folliculitis, RLS, ...but they just seemed focused on the liver and how it is now and not on anything else. Then this past year, they gave me a PETH test with my yearly blood work of "Everything", and it was over 100... like 123. Really? I have maybe one or two craft beers every two or three months. I have two kids, 3 dogs, a husband and a job. If I was drinking enough to have a PETH that high, I would not be functioning. They said, they would check it again at the next physical. sheesh.... it will probably still be high since they didn't take into consideration that it could be ANYTHING else.

The simplest is like said, refuse a dried blood spot test and take a whole blood version. Not perfect, but clearly better.

Insofar as peth and autoimmune, I got nothing. No ideas, have read no research. Are whole blood peths coming back positive as well? If so, that’s a valuable data point and something I will ask my hired experts when I can.

Honestly, I haven’t found anyone who really knows this test that well yet.
