Liver hemangioma/liver resection
I have been referred to mayo for a giant liver hemangioma to discuss liver resection surgery. Has anyone had a liver resection? Just curious how the Mayo process goes and the surgery.

@sheikham1, I understand your apprehension about having to undergo surgery. Before my surgery, I was able to talk to a dear friend, a nurse, who explained a lot to me in everyday terms. And my surgeon explained to me what she was going to do, and what th recovery would be like. Both of those wonderful people were a great comfort to me. And as a result, there were no surprises for me.
Have you had the opportunity to speak with your surgeon about the procedure?

1 Reaction@sheikham1, I want to drop in to say that I hope you are doing okay with your waiting for surgery. Have your sisters learned if they will be able to come to be with you?

2 ReactionsHi, I have a large liver Hemangioma. I have been told by a doctor that if I ever got hit in this liver area (car wreck or anything else) that I could bleed out before I get to the hospital, because it's very Vascular. I didn't know that a liver Hemangioma could be resected if needed 🤔.

1 ReactionI too was diagnosed with a large liver mass 10.2 cm (not cancerous) and was told to have it resected. They injected seeds to cortorize the mass in April and prevent it from bleeding out. At the follow up I was told that my liver could collapse and I can now still bleed out. The surgeon addrd that my Hepatic veins are integrated within the mass and I won't make it off of the table. My prognosis is 6 months to a year to live.

1 ReactionI have gigantic liver hemangioma, accidentally found on MRI on my back. General surgeon said it was the largest he has ever seen. He also mentioned that I could bleed to death if I am ever hit hard on the liver area. No surgery for me even though it was mentioned 10 to 15 years ago. I just hope that liver hemangioma won't affect my liver functions.
