C1-C2 joint injections for headache, anyone?

Posted by lesliek808 @lesliek808, Aug 25 7:25pm

I have constant headache and neck pain for the last 5 years. After I was diagnosed with a GI bleed, I was a taken off anti-inflammatories and now taking 3g of Tylenol a day to help control the pain and it's not working.

My pain doctor for the first time injected C1-C2 joint on Saturday and although I still have a slight headache, it feels less intense.

Has anyone else had these injections? Did it work for you?

Hi, there. I don't know if the injection would work or not but I wish you success. What I do know for a fact is that it takes several weeks for the injection to take full effect. I had several procedures done up and down my back , neck shoulder and hand. Not for migraines wich I have managed to keep at bay for years. though I do have them occasionally and very often as a result of the back surgery. which requires me to fast for 8 to 10 hours . Anyways I also know that neck pain is often a symptom of a migraine not the cause in many cases. I hope it does bring some relieve for you soon .
best regards.
Rafael

i have had cortisone injections to my neck. It did not help. I think one has to find the cause of the neck pain. After years of trying different treatments, it has come down the the fact that I have severe osteoarthritis and degenerative disc disease. My neck curvature is the opposite of the way it should curve so support of my head is minimal with he muscles trying to do all the work. I have continous neck pain, reduced movement and bad headaches in the occipital lobe of the back of my head. I will be having surgery to put spacers to replace the discs that have deteriorated and to improve the curvature of my neck

I have had multiple spine injections. They did almost nothing. I give myself Emgality injections once a month and haven't had more than a handful of breakthrough migraines since 2022. Why aren't more people on these? I had a subdural hematoma, and 3 burrhole craniotomy almost 50 years ago. I suffered horrifying migraines for 45 years. It wasn't until long haul Covid made them 20/10, that a specialist recommended Aimovig, the other autoinjector. However Amgen and Lilly take away the drug coupon when you get on Medicare. $750 per shot. If my neurologist's nurse didn't give me free samples, I would have sunk back into migraine hell. Life changing drug for me.

In reply To all of the above. I Also deal with lots of headaches and issues in my neck. I'm just wondering if any of you have heard of jugglar vein compressions? I was diagnosed with it in '25 I still didn't have my surgery for it as of lots of other health issues. Just thought this could be an option if any of you wanted to check into it, I see a doctor from Germany for it.... It's not exactly a well known issue though.

@raehost
I have jugular compression syndrome due to my C1. My C1 compressed my jugular vein 70%. I just had occipital cervical fusion (skull to C2).
