C1-C2 joint injections for headache, anyone?
I have constant headache and neck pain for the last 5 years. After I was diagnosed with a GI bleed, I was a taken off anti-inflammatories and now taking 3g of Tylenol a day to help control the pain and it's not working.
My pain doctor for the first time injected C1-C2 joint on Saturday and although I still have a slight headache, it feels less intense.
Has anyone else had these injections? Did it work for you?

I am sorry for your pain. Are you referring to nerve blocks when you say “injections”? If so, I did get those at a pain clinic - I had been afflicted with headaches pretty much 24/7 for the past 15 years at least. They did absolutely NOTHING. And they’re rather painful. I endured for about two years before giving up. Have you tried Botox? How about the different CGRP’s available today? I hope something works for you and you get your life back . I wish you success. 1 Reaction@richardfrancine Yes, I wasn't clear on what type of injections. It was a steroid injection. My pain doctor ablated C3-6 in early July. The ablation procedure did not help the neck pain.
Then he injected C1-2 with steroid shot this past Saturday. I don't know if it's working or not. I still have the headache, so I wonder if I'm just being impatient and need to give it more time to see results. If this does not work, I will ask about botox or even contemplate surgery. I cannot function at all. I'm still working at age 63.
You really have suffered over these 15 years. I'm sorry you're going through this. I can relate how defeating the feeling is that you'll never be out of pain.

1 ReactionIn my experience, nerve blocks take several days to kick-in. Yes, the injection is painful and can knock you out for a few days. I had three nerve blocks before I decided it was not worth it to me to have steroids in my body. CGRP's have been more effective for me. I take Aimovig 140 every 28 days. I am on my second round of Botox and still have not decided if that is beneficial. Botox does us CGRP's which are proven to reduce or mitigate headaches. I still have daily headaches, they are just more tolerable. My tumor is inoperable. I hope this information helps. You are not alone.

I had to look up what CGRP is. I have never heard of that. I can bring that up with my pain doctor since I see him in 3 weeks. I'm sure that and botox is worth trying before I ask for surgery.

3 ReactionsIn reply To all of the above. I Also deal with lots of headaches and issues in my neck. I'm just wondering if any of you have heard of jugglar vein compressions? I was diagnosed with it in '25 I still didn't have my surgery for it as of lots of other health issues. Just thought this could be an option if any of you wanted to check into it, I see a doctor from Germany for it.... It's not exactly a well known issue though.

@lesliek808 to your question, Yes, you can get it in the United States. I knew someone who went to Colorado Otherwise, I don't know any other place in the US Hopefully this will help you out.
You didn’t stay with the doctors think about the cause and the types of doctors you’ve been to so it’s not really possible to give a specific answer, but I can say that Botox should be in your arsenal. Things worked until they didn’t work and then surgery worked make sure you’ve had an MRI and been to an orthopedic spine surgeon starting top down.
