Anyone experience anxiety due to caregiving? How to cope?

Does anyone experience anxiety due to caregiving ? If so, how do you cope when it strikes? (It begins with overwhelming dread out of left field; very heavy & ominous- then lightheaded/dizzy. I never had this before becoming a caregiver)

Thank you!

I must be in a mood this morning because my sarcastic self wanted to respond to your post with, are there any of us NOT experiencing anxiety as caregivers.
If you're not anxious what is your secret?
My GAD-7 score is high (anxiety scale). I started seeing a therapist. Sometimes my therapy sessions are virtual because it's hard to get away unless I pay for respite care.
Good luck finding what works to reduce your anxiety. Photography is a great stress reducer!
Bye for now. 🦭

I LOVED your comment "are there any of us NOT experiencing anxiety as caregivers."
YOU MADE ME LAUGH FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME!

Sometimes, I will sit out back on our patio at night in the dark, with a drink of Grand Marnier or Cointreau and try to zone out for the rest of the night (hopefully). My wife normally sleeps for 10-12 hours every night, so I do get some alone time.

Both of you are in my prayers. No one has to believe like me but I will still say prayers for your well-being. This is often a tough and long journey as caregivers.

@tunared that sounds great. I enjoy unwinding with a glass of wine, but then it’s back to angst-high alert mode all night as she wakes up frequently for bathroom as well as “hooting’ & hollerin” about nonsense.

@kmliste I often ask for patience and compassion and think of all of the caregivers out there 🤗❤️✨it’s a lonely journey but we are not alone

@gratia Thank you for those thoughts. The opossum in my plant has made my day really joyful. Who knew a pink nose poking out of a plant would break the tension and make me laugh.
We are NOT alone.

I have been wondering if I was having anxiety and/or depression, never having had either before.
I am a non drinker and don’t use weed so have made sure to bring this concern up to my primary care doc, my therapist, and my support group (s).

@ktcosmos I’ve been wondering the same…but I really don’t want to go on meds. However, it still means having a conversation with PCP. You’re right. I shall do that also. Hugs.

@2me @ktcosmos I have been struggling with new anxiety… and my ‘old friend….”depression” has resurfaced, since I began caregiving for mother with dementia & it took over my entire life. (I’ve always been able to manage my moods with self care in the past)

However, due to sleep deprivation, etc., I’m falling into a hole. I don’t want to take meds, so trying to do some movement, creative writing and deep breathing. I think the social component is critical- having online communities helps and even better, if you have someone you can confide in. 🤗❤️Do reach out to your doctor or a therapist if you’re struggling. It’s important to take care of yourself first! I’m sending you my support and just letting you know you’re not alone on this journey.
