Anyone experience anxiety due to caregiving? How to cope?

Does anyone experience anxiety due to caregiving ? If so, how do you cope when it strikes? (It begins with overwhelming dread out of left field; very heavy & ominous- then lightheaded/dizzy. I never had this before becoming a caregiver)

Thank you!

At first, when we got my husband’s diagnosis, my doctor prescribed an SSRI that I did not want to take, and I haven’t. That said, what has helped are CBD gummies (with no THC) I take a half a gummy when my anxiety is at it’s peak and they do help.

As time goes by I need them less and less as I educate myself more about the disease and become accustomed (is that possible?) to my ever changing spouse or at least the fact that this is our life now. I also attend a monthly caregiver support group with the local Alzheimer’s Socitey, it really helps. I pray, oh do I pray. I also continue to lunch with friends. Oh, also going for a walk each evening with my spouse helps us both.

I still have bad moments but I feel better able to cope with them.

I love all the pictures!

@gratia Do you mind sharing what happened or how you felt when you took the one with THC?

@trishaanderson I thought it was a CBD gummy I took from cabinet but it was THC & cbd ….after about half an hour (lying in bed), I felt dizzy and all over the place. Every little sound was amplified. Basically it ratcheted up my anxiety and the state of high alert was so much worse. I felt disoriented and just out of it most of the night.
The CBD alone seems ok - I prefer the Boiron brand natural stress gummies better- very mild.

@gratia I appreciate you sharing your reaction. That must have been awful when you were looking for relief.
Out of desperation for some help for my husbands agiatation and aggression. I went to a state-run dispensary; the staff was very helpful. They suggested a gummy product that is THC & CBD,
It has helped calm his agitation. Thankfully, he didn't have your reaction.

@trishaanderson Hi Trish, I’m sure it’s different for everyone; I need to be on alert for my mother’s care, so feeling ‘out of it’ had me stressed😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫.

We do want to see if it works for our Mother to rest and relax. I’m so glad to hear it’s helping your husband! That is good news🤗❤️✨

I allow myself a monthly visit to a therapist. The other day it was pouring rain and there was no parking available outside her office.
I was relieved I’d left early because I drove around for about 15 minutes before finding a spot to park.
I was a right mess when I finally got inside and sat down with my provider.
The irony of needing that session so much and thinking I was going to miss it while worrying about spouse at home…. It’s just too much sometimes. Isn’t it?
Afterward, though, I was so much better off and laughing about the obstacles in my way.

@ktcosmos Forgive me but yesterday I went a different way. I watched two movies: The room next door and Still Alice. So unlike me but was doing chores at the same time. I was in a funk the rest of the afternoon. I won't do that again! I can laugh today and each film had pertinent messages. It just wasn't a good day after.
Today is better. I will tell you that I had to ask my husband to quit talking this morning at the breakfast table. He was Mr. Negative, negative, negative. He finally listened. Usually (and he did) try to argue with me, but I said, "I know your argument and please just stop. Just. Stop. Thankfully he did.

@kmliste All of this is so familiar and difficult....never pictured my life being this....I'm sure it's a factor in my afib and now I have to get an ablation...the stress is awful.

@diane07710 Thank you for your understanding. Oh how I feel for you! We seem to go in cycles: one week Mr. Funny with a sense of humor shows up. Next week Mr. Grumpy (ever seen the puppet "Walter"?) from the firm of Bitch, Moan and Gripe shows up.
I'm trying to find extra help for both inside and outside. We have an acre yard and I need help. He is able and does mow but the rest of it is "when I feel like it." Mostly he just reads and sleeps. That's where he went just now.... to read and sleep. I got him to agree to eat dinner with our son tonight ( our house) without changing anything or griping. He said he would. Ay yi yi! I hear ya! Blessings to you.

@diane07710
I, too, have developed AFib. It just figures, doesn't it? Good luck with your ablation.
