Diagnosed with Isolation

Posted by lsittll @lsittll, Apr 24, 2023

A few years ago I had a social worker give me the diagnosis of isolation. Two social workers at a different psychosocial network say that I am isolated. I have only one close friend. So what? I have many casual friends. I am out regularly. People talk to me whenever I am out. There are so many people I know by face but not personally. Every time I go to 7- Eleven and the friendly people talk to me. Isolated is the least appropriate word to use for me. I only feel alone because I do not have a boyfriend anymore.

The next time my social worker asks me about feeling isolated or uses that word to describe me I will tell her isolated is the least appropriate word to use for me and tell her the other things I have mentioned. I hate the word isolated.

If your wife won't talk to you it is still your choice to do nothing about it. It is OK if you want to sit around and feel powerless not your only option. I think it is much worse feeling like a victim than empowering yourself and finding people to talk to. You also have choices whether or not to stay in the marriage. If you want to just stay home and do nothing that is also your choice which is fine. Just own it. That is on you, not your wife. I would suggest therapy and/or Codependence Anonymous. This sounds like some unconscious generations cycle you are playing out which can be changed. Change takes courage and strength and you can do it.

@sallyo420 I agree with you 100 percent. I decided some time ago that I was not going to continue this. I enjoy doing things and I’m not going to sit around and watch my life pass me by. It’s been complicated for a while. But not anymore. Thank you

That's great. I can really relate to you as I am also codependent. I love being isolated but I force myself out. My husband is a narcissist so we barely speak which is fine. I also had to learn to take responsibility for myself. My husband is now the constant victim. Oh well. I think feeling powerless is one of the worst feelings. Good luck.
