Anyone taking Mirtazapine? Is it working for you? Any side effects?

Has anyone been taking Mirtazapine? Like to know if they have taken themselves off and how did you do it?

@mugsie1975 it's been several years since I began taking it so I don't remember. I am guessing that it takes the standard 4-6 weeks like most antidepressants

@scain took me exactly 6 weeks, just like the doctor said. Have been taking for many years.

It took me at least 3 weeks to take effect.

I took it many years, and it made me sleepy. My appetite became stronger. I could wake up in the middle of the Night and eat some sweet. At last I took one spoon extremely sweet jam to stop eating sweet.

@mugsie1975 taper slow, 5 to 10% every 2 to 4 weeks. Also be careful with mirtazapine. It is an antidepressant and you will need to taper from it when done with your benzo.
What benzo are you tapering?

I took it for one day and needed to stop. It made me ravenous and I can’t afford to gain any weight. My understanding is it is known to cause weight gain and that it really shouldn’t be prescribed to people who should not gain weight, are at risk for diabetes/heart disease, joint issues, etc.

@dlydailyhope have been on it for many years. Helps me.

It makes me drowsy during the day. But sleep good at night. When I get up I am ok , but as the day goes on I become tired and lonely. I have no appetite. Have to make myself eat.

@maryking3977 I also force myself to eat. Have lost 40 lbs. Trying to come off which is brutal. Reducing 15 mg to 7.5. Possibly the taper is too quick.

no ,only been on it since 2/28/25, and I am about to take myself off. Can't stand the side effects (shakes)until late evening and drowsy.

@maryking3977 I am trying to come off 15 mg. My doc has me reducing from 15 to 7.5. From what I have read this is too fast a taper. The side effects like muscle pain and headache have become intense.
