Anyone taking Mirtazapine? Is it working for you? Any side effects?

Has anyone been taking Mirtazapine? Like to know if they have taken themselves off and how did you do it?

@armardi373 hi not rage but did feel weird and almost poisoned by aftertaste and dry mouth feeling groggy. I am just trying to stay off it but struggling even after only 3 months. Started 7.5 went up to 15 for a month but felt very Anxious and panicky - tapered back down to 7.5 then 3.75 stopped three nights ago but can’t sleep more than four hours and have hot skin flashes. Don’t want to return to it but GP does recommend at least six months and said I was stopping against medical advice. It’s a very potent antihistamine drug certainly you out but I don’t want to feel so drugged

Your GP needs to listen to his patients. Thats crazy telling you to stsy on it for 6 months when you have serious side effects. Tell him to go on it and suffer through the side effects for 6 months. It makes me so angry to hear that this happened to you. I couldn't take it either because of the same reason.I got off myself. Take care and get a new GP. God Bless

@kittyjohnson1964 hi thanks for replying. Yes I now feel that unless I take the medication I will not get any support from the surgery.
I have had mixed symptoms this week after stopping it on Monday but I want to see it through!. Sleep is now the main issue

You take 10mg I see.
Well I’m on 45mg every night, does nothing.

@dennismm I just want to say that in my experience mind and every brain in each individual can work differently. If what you're taking isn't helping with your problem you must talk to your doctor. We have to take control of our health these days especially.

No one knows your body as well as you do. Always remember doctors do NOT have lived experience with the disease. They go by the medical books. If you give a medication a good try and it doesn’t work stop and say I want something else. Not every patient responds the same way. Good luck 😀

@dennismm how long have you been on that dose and what do you take it for?

Jump to this post

@zelenkobooks I have been on this dose for a few years. Prior to this on 30 mg for almost 20 years. Just changed back to 30 a few weeks ago. Take it for depression and sleep aid.

I just started mirtazapine 7.5 mg. So far its sedation feeling. Im on a lot of other medication so could be combination side effect. Im not ravenous but I am getting cravings. I also have thyroid disease which could cause that. Sleep is ok. I have PTSD vivid dreams and nightmares.

Have been taking mirtazapine for years for depression (the only antidepressant that I can take as all others made me more anxious. ) But I didn't know that mirtazapine is remeron. I thought remeron was taken for restless leg syndrome. Confusing??

@mugsie1975 it's been several years since I began taking it so I don't remember. I am guessing that it takes the standard 4-6 weeks like most antidepressants
