Has anyone taken creatine supplements to improve low muscle mass?
I'm hoping to hear from others, especially older women with low muscle mass, regarding the outcome of taking creatine supplements. Many thanks for sharing any experience.

At 78 years old, I can say that creatine, 3 or 4 grams a day, has definitely helped my muscle strength as measured by resistance exercises and aerobics on bicycle and treadmill. It amounts to about a 10 - 20% dumbbell curl weight increase with same number of reps and less muscle burn on the bike. I've been doing these exercises for many years and have a pretty good sense of my up and down strength which was slowly diminishing as I've aged. Check with your PCP, but this N of 1 finds creatine helpful.

4 ReactionsMy new PCP suggested I research creatine supplement as my muscle mass has decreased almost to the point of sarcopenia. It's great to know 3-4 g can be effective for someone close to my age. I changed to a healthier diet earlier this year and lost 10 lbs, now stabilized at 112. Did your doc suggest a dose or brand for you?

3 ReactionsMy research/reading/experience says that 5 or 10 or even 15 g. daily is productive for both muscle gain (or maintenance) and cognitive support. It's cheap enough that you might try doubling that 3-4 g.

1 ReactionBom dia.

9 Reactions@peca Thanks so much for your reply! Your last sentence translated refers to associated gymnastics. Could you give me a few examples?
@tillymack It would be bodybuilding (or weight training) indeed, according to yout schedule/disposition. At least 3 times a week under the supervision of a physical education professional.

@peca Due to osteopenia / osteoporosis and scoliosis, plus a very small frame, I have been advised not to lift any more than 30 lbs or risk vertebral fracture. Of course, I've never come close to lifting 30 lbs... my max is 3 lb. weights - maybe that would count as 6 lbs! Thank you!
