Finding Joy
Where do you find joy while caregiving for your LO who suffers from dementia? How do you manage the resentment and frustration? I’m having a hard time seeing an exit.

@gratia I agree totally, about the hardest part is the unknowable future of the disease. What I'm up against too, and frantic over what to do. I have to find someplace else to live, and that frightens me, and I'm not sure why. Look into those nature shots you take like I'm doing right now and I see a field of "hope" in all of this. Your sister is there to help you. Thank God. And you are now looking for a backup caregiver. Thank God. My takeaway, and from someone who posted recently, told me, take what you're dealing with, in small steps, and just chip away. So for me, it's sell my house, clear out my stuff, find another place to live so I can get out of this rental, and get my husband situated in some normal. Small steps, where we conquer one thing at a time. My mantra: Courage to make change, Clarity to know what to do, and God's light helping lead the way. Best, Karla

Karla, you have got this! You have the mindset and your faith to carry you through. I’m just about at the end of an extremely challenging task that , like you, had me terrified. I really wanted to crawl into bed and just sleep forever. Since that was not a realistic option, I leaned on my faith, prayed for help, and came up with a plan…sort of. I won’t bore you with the details, but similar to you, I had a house to empty, repair, and sell…while living in another state…requiring flights, car service, and scheduling family to stay with my husband, during my absence. Looking back, I can honestly say I don’t know how I would have managed it, without my faith. I prayed for help and did I ever receive it!!! Sometimes small things that would make my day brighter, but also big issues were suddenly resolved. It was quite amazing and comforting. By breaking an overwhelming task into small segments, and tackling one at a time,I was able to accomplish the impossible, and you will too!
May God bless you on your journey.

5 Reactions@jniels I woke up this morning with this dreaded fear that I'll never get through all this anguish - I feel the least being right now my husband's MCI. Then I saw this kind note reaching out telling me, "Karla, you have got this." Enough so I went into one of my boxes in our rental house and found my "You got this" desk sign. I'm looking at it now. I appreciate your goodness this morning and sharing the difficulty you went through. Helping widen my own lenses to all the others out here, that are dealing with overwhelming things. I'm up there in years, tired and desperate to get to the end, and quite frankly, struggling. You say your big issues were resolved. You've given me hope and a reminder to just have faith. Funny, how God works, I woke up in the wee hours this morning and shared with God I was also feeling quite terrified. Then later logged onto the PC with a "Karla, you've got this." I'm so glad you were able to accomplish the impossible. Because of your share, and the many others on this site, I will too. Thank you for reminding one task, one tackle at a time to get to brighter days!
Best, Karla

10 Reactions@jniels Karla, I was also awake, when I should have been sleeping. I believe my decision to message you, at that time, was no accident.
I am 82 and also get feelings of dread…sometimes it’s all just a bit much. I couldn’t do any of this without leaning on my faith.🙏

4 ReactionsWe’ve all got this except when we don’t. One question at a time…one task at a time…one day at a time. It’s very hard and will get harder. I’m glad the Jewish high holidays are approaching. I will be doing a lot of praying for all of us.

2 Reactions@grandmajoan yes, and I’m chiming in with “One ‘ask’ at a time”; asking for help, whether medical or caregiver relief; asking for patience and compassion, asking for support - from any source available.
It’s a hard road and my heart goes out to everyone along this journey. ❤️🤗
