Lyrica

Hello! I take Lyrica for neuropathic pain. Recently when taking my evening dose, I experience pain in my feet afterward. I understand laying down at night can increase pain. But I'm already laying down by the time I take it. It doesn't seem to make a difference on the timing of the dose. Anyone have a similar experience?

Hi @bajjerfan and @sewsforfun ~ It's been a week out of the gate and, although it may be wishful thinking, I've not had the intense nerve shocks in my toes, nor any burning in the balls of my feet. I'm usually a mess at night, trying to get them to calm down, but I honestly haven't given them much thought the past 2 nights! I haven't had to use any topicals on them, and that was a nightly necessity lately. Perhaps it's a combination of the LDN and the steroid epidural, but something is working! I'm staying on the Lyrica because of the nerve issues in my spine causing sciatica, and if I have surgery, I'd probably be right back on it b/c I absolutely won't take Gabapentin. Anyway, wanted you to know how my feet are doing after a week of LDN! Thumbs up!

@brennankb55 That's wonderful news. I'm so happy for you! To not have to think twice about the pain in your feet at bedtime is a relief. Please remind me if you want to: what type of surgery are you having?

It certainly has a long list of possible side effects although a lot of these drugs seem to have equally long lists of side eeffects. I guess it's risk vs benefit.

Hi @sewsforfun ~ It is a relief I'm grateful for with all of the other pains I'm struggling with. I'm not sure about surgery, it's just what I expect the neurosurgeon will say because of the danger of paralysis where the nerves are compressed as they exit the spinal canal. I see him on Tuesday next week. I'm thinking it will be a laminectomy at minimum, but may include discectomy and decompression. I'm sure it all depends on how he interprets my MRI and my pain. I've got sciatica that's trying hard to flare again despite the epidural I had a week ago. I'll have a better idea after I meet with him.

Hi Everyone - Since I posted this a week ago, I cut my Lyrica dose by half. I also dropped my B Complex Vitamin and went back to separate B12 and B6 tablets, as advised by my oncologist. My pain seems to almost have resolved. My goal is to get off the Lyrica altogether. I'm left with numbness, which for me, is worse than the pain as it seems to be untreatable. Is there anyone who has had numbness from peripheral neuropathy that has resolved with or without some kind of treatment? I know @corkybailey is using IVIG panzyga but not sure for what type of neuropathy.

@sewsforfun I am NOT using IVIG panzya. After reviewing the drug I chose to pass

@corkybailey I'm easily confused. It was someone else who is using it.

@sewsforfun Hello again! Sorry, I've been away for the past 3 months. I had a decompression laminectomy of my lumbar spine (L1-L5/S1) on 5/26/26. There were no complications and the surgery was successful. My surgeon said he got "good decompression everywhere that needed it" and I've been doing PT twice a week since the end of July. I'm doing really well and am "ahead of schedule" with how I'm progressing. I've had no sciatic or back pain, only sore muscles that are getting a workout. 🙂 I started the low-dose Naltrexone for my neuropathy again and am at 2.5mg a day, planning to increase to 3.5mg in another month. It is definitely keeping the sharp stabbing pains at bay. I'm still taking Lyrica, and need to stay on it permanently. I had a nerve conduction test along with a test of my muscle response and got "good news / bad news." Good news that the neuropathy had not gone up into my legs and was confined to my feet. Bad news that I have carpal tunnel in my left wrist - but it's not related to the neuropathy. So next I'll see a hand surgeon for CT release surgery, which I had years ago in my right wrist. This time I know to get it taken care of before it gets worse! However, I'm concerned that it could also be arthritis in the joints of my thumb and index finger. I'm staying upbeat about it - might as well - and want to get all of the "surgery" done this year so next year will be a cake walk!!
