Lyrica

Posted by sewsforfun @sewsforfun, Apr 16 7:54am

Hello! I take Lyrica for neuropathic pain. Recently when taking my evening dose, I experience pain in my feet afterward. I understand laying down at night can increase pain. But I'm already laying down by the time I take it. It doesn't seem to make a difference on the timing of the dose. Anyone have a similar experience?

@sewsforfun ~ Thanks! Starting it tonight and crossing my fingers and toes. No wait - the toes don't cooperate!! Think I'll pray instead. 😉

@brennankb55 - Neuropathy Commons has a good overview of the different testing used to diagnose neuropathy - https://neuropathycommons.org/diagnosis/diagnosing-peripheral-neuropathy. This short video by Matthew B Jensen Assistant Professor of Neurology, University of Wisconsin that gives a good explanation of how the different neuropathies are diagnosed.

@sewsforfun ~ I'll be happy to! I understand it can take a minute to get into your system and start working. Also, I'm only at 1.5mg and it can titrate up to 4 or 5mg. Fortunately I have a local compounding pharmacy, but they don't bill insurance or accept any drug discount cards like GoodRx. I understand there may be ones online you can order from, so I'm going to look into their requirements and pricing. Tonight is just my second dose as it's recommended to take it before bed. I've bookmarked this post so I can give updates.

@johnbishop I tried gamabetin (spelling wrong) but didn’t agree with me, light headed,GI issues. I am searching for something that may decrease the numbness.

Hi Everyone - Since I posted this a week ago, I cut my Lyrica dose by half. I also dropped my B Complex Vitamin and went back to separate B12 and B6 tablets, as advised by my oncologist. My pain seems to almost have resolved. My goal is to get off the Lyrica altogether. I'm left with numbness, which for me, is worse than the pain as it seems to be untreatable. Is there anyone who has had numbness from peripheral neuropathy that has resolved with or without some kind of treatment? I know @corkybailey is using IVIG panzyga but not sure for what type of neuropathy.

@brennankb55

I've seen here where it can take months to see benefits.

Hi @bajjerfan and @sewsforfun ~ It's been a week out of the gate and, although it may be wishful thinking, I've not had the intense nerve shocks in my toes, nor any burning in the balls of my feet. I'm usually a mess at night, trying to get them to calm down, but I honestly haven't given them much thought the past 2 nights! I haven't had to use any topicals on them, and that was a nightly necessity lately. Perhaps it's a combination of the LDN and the steroid epidural, but something is working! I'm staying on the Lyrica because of the nerve issues in my spine causing sciatica, and if I have surgery, I'd probably be right back on it b/c I absolutely won't take Gabapentin. Anyway, wanted you to know how my feet are doing after a week of LDN! Thumbs up!
