Nabulizing time

Posted by lindenflower @lindenflower, Aug 14 12:03pm

Guys, how much time do you spend on nabulizing?
It takes me 2 hours a day.
30 min - Albuterol, 30 min -saline. And it’s twice a day.
What kind of machine to use to make it shorter?
My throat is hurting from so much.
Plus, I’m noticing the compressor gets really hot, and there are water bubbles in the tubing by the end of the sessions.
Something seems not right.
Please advise.

@lindenflower Hello, lindenflower, I spend about 20 min nebulizing in morning and bf bed with prescription for sodium choride 3% in in vials that he prescribes for 90 days and sends to Vanderbilt's clinic pharmacy mail order (I plan ahead). Publix and Walgreens pharmacies often don't have enough saline, especially in large quantities. Personally, I don't trust meds from Amazon (plus I quit them 2 years ago).

I use the VIOS pari-pro for main nebulizer and had a Pari Trek S Portable Compressor until it broke down on a vacation and found a medical supply that sold an Omron compressor nebulizer that I still use for trips. (After Dr. Shane's presentation I wanted to learn more about her suggestion to use nebulizer solution before Aerobika. Can anyone who watched it please clarify).
Hope that's not TMI. Best, Jessed

@vstankie
Would you clarify please- do you mix 9%saline with Albuterol in the same nabulizer cup and do them simultaneously?

@lindenflower
Yes, I do 7% saline and albuterol in the cup at the same time. I tried using 7% saline by itself, and it was very difficult because it's so harsh. If you are truly using .09 % saline, it won't work. It's the same saline concentration as our blood. You need 7% saline. I hope this clarifies.

And how is your throat and chest are feeling?
I’m first month into 7 % saline and Albuterol and having some issues with my throat. Don’t know what’s causing it.

@lindenflower yes, it's very irritating to my throat. But it's working, I'm able to bring up the mucus, which I was unable to. My doctor wants me to use the saline twice a day. So far, I'm only doing it once a day, I'm hoping I can build up my tolerance to twice.

@vstankie Try mixing it 50/50 with 0.9% saline, then over time using less and less of the weaker one. It is perfectly OK to save the open vials, upright in a clean container, to use later so you don't waste them.

Albuterol should be used separately, before the saline, to open the airways. Some use the neb, others find using 2 puffs of an inhaler first, then setting up neb, putting away dishes, etc for 10-15 minutes before nebbing works - and saves time.

You might want to run these choices past your doc - by message if you don't have an upcoming appointment.

Hi,
Thank you for very interesting insights!
It’s funny though- my respiratory tech told me last week to use the flow setting even though the whole year I was using breath actuated.
Are you using 9% saline?

@lindenflower I use 7 %

@vstankie wow!
If it brings up mucus, it’s a good solution.
Thank you for sharing!

@sueinmn Thank you!
I will run it past my doc.
The only thing, my insurance probably doesn’t cover 0.9 %just like it doesn’t cover 0.7 %.
Where do you, ladies purchase those, if I may?

@lindenflower not sure, but I think you're mixing up the decimal for the saline solution. There's a .09% and a 7% .
I purchased .09% at a medical supply in Florida without a script. The 7% requires a script.
The .09% did absolutely nothing for me. The 7% is working very well , I am bringing up mucus without a lot of effort. I use an inversion board and let gravity do a lot of work.

@vstankie Thank you!
How long does it take in the inversion board- a whole night?
