Nabulizing time

Posted by lindenflower @lindenflower, Aug 14 12:03pm

Guys, how much time do you spend on nabulizing?
It takes me 2 hours a day.
30 min - Albuterol, 30 min -saline. And it’s twice a day.
What kind of machine to use to make it shorter?
My throat is hurting from so much.
Plus, I’m noticing the compressor gets really hot, and there are water bubbles in the tubing by the end of the sessions.
Something seems not right.
Please advise.

IiDrive is what I was sent by the med supply company through insurance but wasn’t cutting it for me for twice a day nebulizing. I purchased the ombra out of pocket along with the Aeroclipse cups and the Arobika. Depending where you purchase an Rx may be required. I also have the Pari Trek as a portable device. Both compressors were under $100 each although if you want the battery pack for the Pari Trek the price does double.

@lindenflower It sounds like either your nebulizer compressor needs the filter changed or it is failing. The WORST compressor I ever used took 18-20 minutes. And there should never be liquid or bubbles in the tubing .
If you can, see a respiratory therapist or nurse, take your machine along to demonstrate using it.
What compressor do you have?

@sueinmn I use the Ombra compressor & AeroEclipse neb. I was instructed to use the breath activated mode , so that none of the saline is being wasted in the air , and also instructed to hold each inhalation 2-3 secs before breathing out, to help the saline settle in better into the airways . Also told to take slow, deep breaths . The entire process takes me around 20 mins .

Hi,
Thank you for very interesting insights!
It’s funny though- my respiratory tech told me last week to use the flow setting even though the whole year I was using breath actuated.
Are you using 9% saline?

Thank you so much!
How often do you have to change Aeroclipse cups?

@lindenflower as long as you are using the reusable it’s only every 6 months. The replacement includes new tubing with the cups. I ordered mine from Tampa Specialty Pharmacy when I got my Aerobika. They are listed on the Monaghan Medical site but do require an Rx. I don’t believe Saverite and a few other suppliers require the prescription.

I use pari promenade max as my nebulizing machine. It’s really sturdy and solid- stands long nebulizing.

@lindenflower I was using .09 percent saline and getting no results. And I found out that .09 % saline, this is the same as our tears. So I inquired of my pulmonologist, who ordered 7% saline which has helped immensely though it's very harsh. So my pulmonologist added albuterol, which makes it much more tolerable. I didn't know there was a 9% saline

And how is your throat and chest are feeling?
I’m first month into 7 % saline and Albuterol and having some issues with my throat. Don’t know what’s causing it.

@vstankie
Would you clarify please- do you mix 9%saline with Albuterol in the same nabulizer cup and do them simultaneously?
