Has your loved one experienced aggravated delusions upon waking?
Hello
Been a couple of weeks.
Has anyone had their Alzheimer’s spouse experience aggravated delusions upon waking up in the morning, lasting a frenetic 3or 4 hours and then like throwing a switch they calm down and become calm and reasonable?

Probably hallucinations. You might find some mitigation in telling them that they are still asleep and having a nightmare. And then some coffee or tea.
Misinterpreted noises near waking seem to be operative.
Sometimes getting somewhere safe, or knowing that someone powerful is coming to help, or music can break the spell.
Best wishes.

6 Reactions@gently Hi, I’m just wondering where you learned some of the information you mentioned. NOT a complaint! It was so interesting that I was just wondering about your source.
Becky, " probably hallucinations" is immersive. I'm receptive to your comment (even if it had been complaint). I didn't mean to sound pub med. I should have written possibly or maybe or you might consider.

2 ReactionsI would suggest the book, "Surviving Alzheimer's: Practical Tips and Soul-Saving Wisdom for Caregivers" by Paula Spencer Scott (Author)
(Amazon)"The book recommended by dementia experts and family caregivers as the most complete, practical guide to Alzheimer's and other dementias—now updated and expanded through end-of-life care."
I've found it useful in identifying behavior and practical responses. It is my bedtime reading.

3 ReactionsI am wondering if caffeine in coffee upon waking would help the situation.

4 ReactionsThe one thing our neurologist lit up about wasn't the Lithium Orotate my wife's taking (hadn't heard of it), or the positive effects we're seeing with it (google Harvard 2025 Lithium). It was when I said we're now drinking strong coffee and tea every morning along with one square of dark chocolate. All have caffeine, and each also has a different beneficial alkaloid according to an article I read somewhere about Alzheimer's. Too fried lately to recall where. Whatever helps, is our motto. 🙂
ps-More on LiO in the "New Intel..." topic here in Mayo Connect.

5 Reactions@plus So your wife's neurologists thought that a lot of caffeine was good for her and her memory?

1 Reaction@plus how much LiO are you taking and when do you take. My LO has been on it for a year at 10mg. Just upped it to 20 last week. Over the year she has lost a lot of her short term memory and has hallucinations and confusion about details of past events. Would these have been worse without it? Who knows?
