@danafitz I agree that 5 months is probably enough time to adjust to Metoprolol. On a different post, @bbisno asked about the side effects and I posted this article in the reply. I did not have dizziness from the Metoprolol, 50 mg each morning ever since a septal myectomy 4 years ago. I did develop an electrical problem causing arrythmia after the surgery, I experienced dizziness and giddiness and 2 syncope. I acquired Buddy, my ICD, to pace my heart. Worked wonderfully.
Have you been diagnosed with HCM?
@walkinggirl. My doctors are at Northwell - L I J
Ablation pvc is scheduled for 9/28. More nervous about meds as I have a stomach that cannot tolerate any, but my dr scared me and said I could die!

1 Reaction@luckyhowreyou I was diagnosed 4 yrs ago, but obviously it got worse recently as shownona monitor and echo. My stomach issues have me throwing up occasionally, but the dr said that. Wouldn’t. Cause. The recent decline. Suffer. From. Depression. As. A. Result where I have never suffered this. Before. Where are the. Golden years?
@luckyhowreyou I am afraid. I. Need. An.Icd. but the dr says take one step at a time. What. Is. A septal myectomy?
@walkinggirl
Yes - obstructive hcm, diagnosed in March 2026. I had a little dizziness when I first went on 25 mg of Metoprolol, then it subsided after a few days. Dizziness again when the dose was increased to 50 mg, and then it subsided. But it seems to me now that the dizziness is increasing and is much worse than before. Especially during and after exercise, to the point where I feel unable to function, sometimes with visual disturbances. Is it from the hocm? Metoprolol? Who knows?
@danafitz taking a medicine that makes you dizzy is scary to say the least. Now I have a fear of even going outside. I fractured my femur 2 years ago after a fall. Wonder if the hcm caused it. I am 75 and lately feel like 100. I seemed okay until the macrobid for a uti and starting metropol. Dr might put me on something else until the pvc ablation but am afraid my body can take just so much. I want to be in good shape for the procedure. Is anybody unmediated with hcm?
@bbisno It has been quite wet here in the NE, I live in Upstate NY north of Albany. Have you considered the possibility that while in Chautauqua you reacted to all the mold that has been around this year?
@luckyhowreyou @bbisno @danafitz I wish to add one more thing to this helpful discussion on Metoprolol side effects - dizziness - vertigo - fatigue and the rest of it. Hydration. Are each of you well hydrated? I find that if I am not well hydrated, I get that dizzy-not-feel-like-myself. I am always asked by my cardiologist and PCP how much I drink each day, both recommend 2 liters/quarts each day for me. I have a 32 oz refillable water bottle that I fill twice a day. Both HCM and Metoprolol have a negative effect on kidneys; water keeps them well flushed. Hearts and related matters function better when hydrated. We get more liquid from food (think juicy apples and oranges) that adds to the 60+ ounces. Ask your doctors how much water you need to drink every day.
@walkinggirl
My personal trainer recommends 100 oz per day so that’s always my target. I am not worried about my hydration!
