What is Normal when the end is near?
"Although nobody knows the length of time a person will live, your Mom is probably in the 2 to 3 month range."
Part of me just wants her struggle to be over - sleeping, barely eating, not knowing where she's at or why.
Another part wants the Mom I used to always have. She'll never stand up and hug me like she used to. I wished I hugged her just a little bit harder when I could. Now, I bend over her and gently touch her frail body.
So, with these opposing factions within, I'm left numb. And I feel extra guilty because I should be visiting more and I have health issues keeping me from going as often as I want. But, sometimes, I don't want to go. Overwhelmed with life and people.
Grief has been long and still, it continues... I just want to sit like the painted bunting bird I saw on this fence...

Everyone is different but there are some things that are similar. You need to check utube videos . Some hospice nurses have posted about when the end is near. I am sorry for your loss. And I do feel for you as well. You might need to talk to a grief counselor

14 Reactions@trav77 Thanks. Yes, I follow hospice nurse Julie and it helps knowing what to expect. Just sharing with others is also helpful - and this is really the only place I can share.

11 ReactionsIt's only normal to want the end to be over for a loved one struggling. And normal to feel the way you do about wanting your mom back the way she was. I've gone over and over in my mind a million times, what I should have done for my own mother when she got sick and passed. But we should always harbor the good memories, remember where we came from and the upbringing we had, that make us the people we are today: good, loving, caring, individuals - whether remote or there with them every day. That painted bunting bird should give you solace in knowing that God is really in control and has your beloved mother in his hands. He's watching over her so visit when you can and gently touch her whenever you can. Best, Karla

Laugh about something you and your mom did or saw that was funny. I truly believe your mom would want that for you. She finally is allow to rest. She loves you dearly. Rest my dear rest

13 Reactions@kjc48 Well said! I just buried my spouse and the day before my brother died from Parkinson’s and it’s complications that go with it! I truly believe he was waiting for me to give him permission to transition to his next life in heaven! He was a loving, kind and generous man and brother! I was so blessed to have him in my life! Thank you for your wise words and support to other’s!

11 Reactions@sillyblone I am SO SORRY that you lost both your husband and your brother at the same time. That hardly seems fair but nothing in life is fair. We just deal. And all of us have the same set of issues - give or take - to deal with. Thank you for your share this morning. Reading your post and feeling the double loss you're dealing with, puts things in perspective. We just take each day as it comes and try to be the best version of ourselves, we can be! Best, Karla

10 Reactions@kjc48 Thank you! I honestly don’t know how to describe how I feel! It is hard to be the older sister and my brother adored me as much as I did for him! I am sad that I won’t be able to laugh and cry with him! He was never married .. so I was his person and he trusted and loved my input! I took care of him when he was going through his triple bypass after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, which I knew he had and encouraged him to let me go with him to his first neurologist appt. He was active duty in the Navy so he will be buried with honors and he is wanting me to take his flag home! My Dad died from Parkinson’s in 2018 and he was Active duty officer in the Navy! He had honors as well! Again I was given his flag! I did give it to my son as he was so very closed to him! My son is with me now! I don’t know what I would have done without my family! I am ready a grief series that a friend from church gave me! I have chosen to remember the first time I laid eyes on my handsome husband!! That was so long ago! But.. I was smitten by his good looks and kind face! We had a wonderful life together! Again thank you!
